SYM Maxsym 400 Maxi-Scooter Unveiled
The maxi-scooter has received a ground-up overhaul for 2021
You might remember SYM from its stint with Kinetic two-wheelers. The deal sinked after Mahindra took over Kinetic and the Taiwanese brand disappeared from India. However, the brand is still popular in many foreign markets for its affordable products. Now, SYM has unveiled the Maxsym 400 maxi-scooter for the European market.
Unlike most manufacturers that roll out small updates in form of updated bodywork or new paint jobs, SYM has completely reworked the Maxsym 400 from ground up. To start off with, the brand has redone the frame and the new unit is now 18.5 percent lighter compared to its predecessor.
The Euro5-compliant 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine has seen some changes too. It is now equipped with a roller rocker arm that greatly reduces friction and the subsequent wear and tear that follows. The engine produces 34PS at 6750rpm and 39.5Nm at 5250rpm.
SYM has equipped the Maxsym 400 with telescopic fork at the front and adjustable dual shocks. Braking duties are handled by twin 275mm discs at the front and a single 275mm disc at the rear, aided by dual-channel ABS.
In a typical maxi-scooter fashion, the Maxsym 400 sports a big, 13-litre fuel tank, underseat storage that is big enough to gobble two helmets and an adjustable windscreen. Other creature comforts on the scooter include traction control, emergency stop indicator, keyless ignition, charging port and a provision to mount a camcorder.
Though it is unlikely that the SYM Maxsym 400 could make its debut in India, we spotted the SYM Joymax Z 300 being tested in Pune, hinting that SYM may have something in store. If you are on a lookout for a maxi-scooter, currently we only have the Suzuki Burgman Street 125 and the Aprilia SXR 160. However, Honda did bring the Forza 300 to India in limited numbers last year, and we expect the Japanese manufacturer to launch the Forza 350 in India soon.
