The Pepper Electric Moped Offers The Best Of Both Worlds

Modified On Mar 29, 2021 03:55 PM By Zaran Mody

A perfect compromise between e-bicycle and e-motorcycle?

The juvenility of mainstream electric two-wheelers means that the market is full of niches and sub-niches just waiting to be explored. Pepper Motorcycles is one such brand from Switzerland doing just that, with its new electric moped. With a nominal output of 3kW and a peak output of 6kW, this prototype sits somewhere between high-powered electric bicycles and low-powered electric motorcycles. For reference, the Revolt RV400 has a nominal output of 3kW and peak output of 5kW.

The Pepper's slender figure and modest dimensions also give it a low kerb weight of just 53kg, making it more approachable than the average e-motorcycle. This lack of mass means that even with its limited power reserve, this moped can reach 70kph, drawing juice from a 700Wh battery pack that sits low in the frame.

Cycle parts consist of a telescopic fork, twin shock absorbers, wire-spoke wheels and a disc brake at both ends. The minimalist design looks great, with the brown seat adding a touch of contrast. That being said, the low handlebar could create a rather uncomfortable riding posture. We’d love to see the Pepper eMoped progress beyond the prototype stage so that we can maybe find out for ourselves some time in the future.
