EICMA 2022: These Royal Enfield 650cc Scramblers Are Ready To Hit The Dirt!

Will Royal Enfield launch something like this in India? 

Royal Enfield bikes have always been a great canvas for custom motorcycle builders worldwide, and the Interceptor 650 seems to be the latest muse for ….well Royal Enfield itself. The company has partnered up with UK-based tour company Bikerbnb. However, instead of building eye candy that would never leave the showroom, the company has built these two gorgeous yet purposeful scramblers. Knowing that there’s a Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 heading our way, these bikes have been showcased at EICMA 2022 and serve as the preview for the actual scrambler.

Up front, the bikes get a custom-made enduro-style fender. The Koso Thunderbolt LED headlight, houses inside a handmade grill. The windshield is the same one that we’ve seen on the Royal Enfield Himalayan. The gel seat is a custom-made one and there’s also a set of stylish saddlebags from Longride for extra practicality.

Nowadays, far too many ‘scramblers’ are ones by design and not by function. But that’s not the case on these. Everything on these scramblers screams function over form. What's most evident up front are the gold-finished premium Ohlins inverted fork. The rear shocks are from Ohlins as well. Royal Enfield-owned British-based motorcycle racing and parts manufacturer Harris Performance has tweaked it right from the yokes to the headstock to the spindle to adjust the bike’s rake and trail.

These scramblers have been given flat track handlebars clamped with risers. They wear custom-made handguards, aluminium mirrors and premium Brembo brakes. What’s interesting is that these bikes are compatible for keyless entry as all you need is an RFID (Radio-frequency Identification) fob to turn it on. 

The 18-inch wheels at both ends have been swapped for a 19-inch wheel up front and a 17-inch unit at the rear. These coupled  with the Pirelli Rally STRs should give it good trail-friendly dynamics. Other bits like extension of the bike’s side stand and slightly pushing the tank backwards have made the scramblers’ off road credentials that much better. The exhaust system, while not an upswept one, is a low-slung, two-into-one system from USA-based engine and parts engineer & manufacturer S&S Cycle. If you can recall, it’s the same brand that makes big-bore kits for the 650 twins.

These things said, the production-spec Scrambler 650 coming to our shores will be on the affordable end of the spectrum, so expect bits like Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes to be replaced with a traditional USD fork and ByBre brakes. While the launch is probably quite some time away, Royal Enfield could price the Scrambler 650 from Rs 3.15 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards.
