This 400cc Chinese Bike Can Humble Many Popular Performance Motorcycles

The Colove Excelle 400RR gets a four-cylinder engine and packs thrilling performance

Chinese auto-manufacturer Colove is working on an incredible four-cylinder 400cc bike, called the Excelle 400RR. Colove had patented the engine last year and has released sketches of the bike in China, which is poised to give extremely capable motorcycles like the Kawasaki Ninja 650 a run for their money.

From what is seen in the sketches, the Excelle 400RR is a fully-faired sports bike with a muscular and aggressive design, complimenting the capabilities of what the bike could achieve. The fascia of the bike features an aggressive looking twin-headlight setup with a central air intake and winglets on the side. The bike has a trellis frame, and a single sided swingarm that looks similar to what the Ducati bikes get.

The most interesting bit of the bike is, of course, the powertrain: A four-cylinder, 400cc, DOHC, liquid-cooled engine claiming to produce a 74PS at 13,500rpm and 44Nm at 12,000rpm. These power figures outclass the Ninja 650 that produces 68PS and 64 Nm, and is made possible by a high revving engine with bigger bore and shorter stroke: 59mm x 36.5mm.

Another incredible thing that has been revealed is that the bike will weigh less than 160kg, which is even lesser than the lightweight KTM RC 200! The company is claiming a top speed of 220kmph – weighing so little and making so much power, the bike does promise thrilling performance.

While most Chinese bike manufacturers work on making bikes identical to what already exists, it is good to see that Colove is working on a new idea, which is bringing back the small-displacement high-revving engines.

The Excelle 400RR is expected to break cover by the end of 2022, and it will be quite an interesting thing to watch as to what the future holds for the smaller displacement four-cylinder bikes.
