Top 5 Electric Two Wheelers At Auto Expo 2020
Bikes, scooters and even trikes!
Petrol-powered two-wheelers may have been in short supply at Auto Expo 2020, but this was somewhat made up for by the number of EVs on display. Here is our pick of the top 5 electric two-wheelers from the Expo:
Hero Electric AE-47
While Hero Electric’s journey so far has been characterised mostly by e-scooters, the firm used the Expo to roll out its very first electric motorcycle. Called the AE-47, it's styled like a naked streetfighter and will do 85kmph thanks to a 4kW hub motor.
The motor derives energy from a 3.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack that’s good for a range of 160km in Eco mode, according to Hero’s claims. It also features crawl assist, cruise control, and a reverse mode.
Everve e-Scooter
How does one stand out in a crowd full of distinctive looking EVs? Everve Motors seems to think the answer lies in a quirky electric maxi-scooter. The brand rolled out its name-less prototype at the Expo and turned a lot of heads in the process.
The e-Scooter will be available with two electric powertrain options: a 3kW motor and a more powerful 5kW unit. Everve claims the electric scooter can accelerate from 0-60kmph in 8.73 seconds. The claimed top speed is 110kmph, though Everve has chosen to restrict it to 90kmph. Two removable lithium-ion battery packs deliver a range of 100km on a single charge.
Hero Electric AE-3
Yes, yes, we know that the title says electric two-wheelers, but we’re going to make a bit of an exception for this one. At the Expo 2020, Hero Electric rolled out not only its first bike but also its first trike! The AE-3 looks quite impressive and unconventional.
Performance is quite zippy too, with a top speed of 80kmph thanks to a 5.5kW electric motor. A 100km range and 5 hour charging time should make it quite useful for the B2B applications for which it is intended.
Okinawa Cruiser
Okinawa is no newcomer to the electric segment in India, it already offers a range of e-scooters in our country. At the Expo, it expanded that range with the unveil of the Cruiser - an electric maxi-scooter unlike anything else we’ve seen from the company before.
It lives up to the maxi appearance with some healthy performance numbers too - a 100kmph top speed and 120km of range, coupled with a charging time of just 2-3 hours via fast charging. The features list is quite rich too, with Bluetooth connectivity, keyless operation, cruise control and an anti-theft system, to name a few.
Vespa Elettrica
The most special-looking electric two-wheeler on display at the Expo was arguably the Vespa Elettrica. It’s chic, it’s stylish, it’s unashamedly Italian and it wears an eye-catching paint scheme with fluorescent inserts. The Elettrica will not make its way to India, but that didn’t stop us from ogling at the beauty at the Piaggio stall.
Beauty is coupled with brains, because the Elettrica can eke out 100km on a single charge, and be juiced up again within 4 hours. Top speed is 70kmph, thanks to a 4kW BLDC motor that delivers 200Nm to the rear wheel! Features like full-LED lighting, a 4.3-inch TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity, and rider modes make this a well-equipped scooter too.
