Triumph Speed 400’s Booking Amount Increased. We Explain Why

Modified On Jul 25, 2023 03:17 PM By Irfan for Triumph Speed 400

It is not necessarily a bad news for prospective buyers

The Triumph Speed 400 made a huge impression when it was launched in India a few weeks ago with its engine, build quality and price. The bookings for the bike started then with a booking amount of Rs 2,000. Now, though, that amount has increased to Rs 10,000. We analyse the possible reasoning behind the sudden increase in the booking amount.

Well, the deservedly huge interest in the bike led to a flurry of bookings from prospective customers to a point that the first 10,000 bookings came in no time. Which is very positive news for Triumph but the manufacturer’s current monthly production capacity at the new Chakan 2.0 plant (set up by Bajaj) in Pune is 5,000 units. And the current dealership network consists of only 15 outlets with a plan to grow to 100 dealerships by March 2024.

So, increasing the booking amount should slow down the pace of receiving new bookings and service the first 10,000 bookings it received, in a streamlined and timely manner. This might prove to be a smart move, in hindsight, as Triumph doesn’t want to receive too many bookings and then end up in a situation where they are not able to process the deliveries of those bikes in a timely manner. We have seen, previously, a lot of brands like Jawa and Yezdi entering (or making a return for that matter) the Indian market and then failing to deliver on the early promises because of being bottlenecked at the time of deliveries.

The Rs 8,000 increase in booking amount is also not necessarily bad news for people wanting to buy the Triumph Speed 400 because the extra amount will anyway be deducted from the on-road price.

If you are looking for a bike that is more off-road friendly than the Speed 400, then you should consider the upcoming Triumph Scrambler 400 X, which is arriving in October 2023.
