Triumph Tiger 900 Pre-Bookings Open, Variants For India Revealed

Only 3 of the 5 variants will make their way to our shores

The baby Triumph Tiger received its biggest update in a long time last year when it grew from the competent but somewhat dated Tiger 800 into the focused and cutting-edge Tiger 900. The new bike has hit the gym and shed some kilos, and is now powered by a funky cross-plane crankshaft motor. We’ve already had a chance to ride the bike and we even know it’s going to be launched in India by the end of this month.

Now, with the launch getting closer, Triumph has begun accepting pre-bookings for the Tiger 900, at an amount of Rs 50,000. And thanks to the company’s microsite for these pre-bookings, we can tell you which variants are going to make their way to our shores. The Tiger has always had two distinct families: a street-oriented version accompanied by a more off-road focused cousin. This continues with the 900 as well, and internationally, it is available in the base variants, the touring-oriented GT and GT Pro variants, and the adventure-loving Rally and Rally Pro variants.

Only three of these will be available in India: the GT, Rally and Rally Pro variants. It claims to be more highway-oriented, but the GT variant is still more off-road capable than its equivalent XR predecessors. The Rally variant takes things up a notch with wire-spoke wheels and knobby tyres among other things, and the Rally Pro packs in all the bells and whistles. A quickshifter, auxiliary lamps, heated pillion seat, and the Triumph My-Connectivity system with Bluetooth capability are all standard, and it even gets an off-road Pro mode.

As for prices, expect the Tiger 900 range to sit in the Rs 13 lakh to 16 lakh window, with deliveries beginning by the end of June. Its primary competition will come solely from the recently launched 2020 Honda Africa Twin, though there is an F900-based BMW GS in the pipeline and the still-quite-fresh V-Strom 1050 should be here soon as well.
