TVS Apache RR 310 BS6 Launched, Gets Rider Modes!

Modified On Jan 30, 2020 05:55 AM By Gaurav Sadanand for BS6 TVS Apache RR 310

TVS has not only tweaked the RR 310’s engine to comply with BS6 norms but also upped the ante by offering some segment-first features!

The updated models produce the same power and torque as before. Features different ride modes that also affect ABS intrusion.  Gets a 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, navigation buttons and more. Weighs 3.5-4kg more than the BS4 model.

Is the TVS Apache RR 310 BS6 the model we’ve all been waiting for? The 2020 iteration gets a truckload of updates including some segment-first features! It’s priced at Rs 2.40 lakh (ex-showroom, pan India), a price hike of Rs 12,000 over the current BS4 model, which retails at Rs 2.28 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Now considering the stringent emission norms, we would have expected the bike’s performance to take a hit. Fortunately, for us enthusiasts, that isn’t the case. In fact, the updated 312.2cc, BS6-compliant liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor make the same 34PS of power and 27.3Nm of peak torque! TVS says it has made minor internal changes to the engine for its refinement.

But that’s not the end of it. The TVS Apache RR 310 BS6 is the first bike in its segment to feature four ride modes (Rain, Urban, Sport, Track), which work in conjunction with ride-by-wire throttle. These ride modes also affect the level of ABS intrusion.

The BS6 Apache RR 310 also goes to the extent of remembering the mode you are in even if the engine is switched off and turned back on. However, we’d like to point out, the more aggressive Sport and Track mode are only available after the bike’s run-in period and first service. So you’d have to be a wee bit patient.

Next up is the bike’s feature list. It gets a 5-inch full-colour TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, much like the KTM 390 Duke. Although, this unit is more advanced and displays readouts such as post-ride analytics, gear shift assist indicator, turn-by-turn navigation, vehicle health information, vehicle status, and overview. You can also accept and reject calls using the control cubes placed on the left-hand side switchgear which also gets a hazard switch.

If that’s not enough, the BS6 Apache RR 310 also comes equipped with Glide Through Technology PLUS (GTTP). It basically works in all six gears in Urban mode and holds a steady 35kmph in sixth with zero throttle input. A nifty feature in stop-and-go traffic.

A potent package so far! But it gets even better. While the RR 310’s suspension hardware remains the same as before, it’s been tweaked internally for better handling. Its braking setup though remains unchanged -- a 300mm and a 240mm disc at the front and rear. The updated mechanicals also call for better rubber. The Michelin Pilot Street radials have been swapped out for stickier Michelin Road 5, W rated units. The updates have led to a weight gain of 4.5kg over the previous-gen model.

It’s safe to say the TVS Apache RTR BS6 model has been comprehensively reworked for 2020, and for good reason as it goes up against the BS6 KTM RC 390. We would like to add that an increment of just Rs 12,000 over the BS4 model screams exceptional value for money. But will it all come together in the end? Stay tuned for our first ride review.
