TVS motor temporarily stops the production of electric vehicles
Chennai based two-wheeler manufacturer, TVS Motor has temporarily stopped the production of its electric vehicles duo to low demand in the Indian auto market. The company has also decided to delay launches of its electric scooter TVS Scooty Teenz which is the battery powered version of TVS Scooty Teenz and electric three-wheeler in India. H S Goindi, Marketing President of TVS Motor Co. said," We have an electric three-wheeler, which we had planned to introduce but there is no market for such products. So we don't have any plans to launch it now. TVS had rolled out the Scooty Teenz Electric in April 2008 with aims a high demand and sales around 40,000 units per year. However, the company another electric scooter which is called as scooterette did not come up to the customers expectations. It is available at a price tag of Rs. 29,900 (ex-showroom-Delhi). "The market is not good for electric two-wheelers. So we are concentrating on our regular scooters and motorcycles," Goindi said. TVS Motor authorized electric scooter dealers have old stocks of the company's electric scooterette and they would still be selling their electric vehicle in the Indian auto market. On the other hand, Suzuki Bandit 1250S, Suzuki GSX-R1000 and Honda CB Dazzler have recently been launched in India. Apart from that launch, Indian motorcycles and scooters lovers will see more launches in India that includes Yamaha YZF R125, Piaggio Vespa LX125, Yamaha SZ and Kawasaki Ninja 650R.
