TVS Sport 100: Variants Explained

Modified On Mar 12, 2020 07:55 PM By Team Bikedekho for TVS Sport

Of the five variants on offer, which is the one for you?

The Sport is TVS’ entry-level 100cc bike in India. Since its debut, the bike hasn’t seen major updates save for the addition of electric start and five-spoke alloy wheels. It also comes with the option of a longer seat version. At 108.5kg, it is one of the lightest motorcycles in its category.

The TVS’ 100cc “Dura Life” single-cylinder engine produces 7.8 PS of max power and 7.5Nm of max torque. It is offered with only drum brakes. TVS will soon be launching the BS6 version of the Sport, but currently continues to be offered with BS4 engine and in five variants.

Let’s check out what each of the variants has to offer.

Kick Start Spoke Wheel - Rs. 40,907

The base variant of the TVS Sport gets sporty body graphics which complement its sporty headlight and tail lamp design. You get the Eco and Power lights on the instrument console. The Eco option (green light) helps in extracting maximum mileage as you come to know whether you are riding in the economy zone, and then adjust your speed accordingly. At 10 litres, one tankful of fuel should easily last most commuters well over a week’s worth of riding in the city. The 5-way adjustable rear shock absorbers means you can calibrate the suspension stiffness based on how much load you’re carrying, making for a more comfortable ride. 130mm drum brakes have been equipped at both ends, with no option for a disc. It is offered in black/silver, indigo/streak, blue, grey, red, volcano/red and white colours.

Kick Start Alloy Wheel – Rs 48,117

The TVS Sport Kick Start Alloy Wheel variant, as the name suggests, gets alloy wheels as an addition to the features offered in the base but nothing more. It costs a premium of Rs 7210. If you want alloys in your Sport, we suggest you go for the next variant instead as it gets electric start as well for a small increment in price.

Electric Start Alloy Wheel – Rs 50,908

Costing a premium of Rs 2791 over the alloy wheel variant, the TVS Sport in the electric start version appears to be much better value. Unlike the self-start feature of most bikes which requires them to be in neutral gear, the TVS Sport can start in any gear. The mechanical and other details remain the same.

Kick Start Long Seat – Rs 48,117

The Kick Start Long Seat variant is priced the same as the Kick Start Alloy Wheel, and is essentially the same bike except for one difference. Here you get, as the name suggests, an extended seat. Since the standard seat is replaced by a longer one, and there are no other additions to the feature list or engine specs, you don’t really end up paying any extra for it compared to the base Alloy Wheel version.

Electric Start Long Seat – Rs 50,908

If you pay Rs 2,791 over the Kick Start Long Seat Variant, you get an electric starter as standard on the bike. If you need the extra space, then this is the version we will recommend as it has the convenience of easier starting. TVS will soon be launching the BS6 versions of these variants. Thus, you are likely to get a good deal on the existing BS4 stock before April 1, 2020, when the new emission laws kick in. Good luck.
