TVS Sport: How Different Is It From TVS Star City Plus?
Both motorcycles bring something unique to the table
TVS currently has 3 offerings in the 110cc commuter segment, the TVS Radeon, the TVS Sport, and the TVS Star City Plus. While the Radeon is aimed at Hero Splendor buyers, things can get a little confusing if you were to choose between the entry-level TVS Sport or the more premium Star City Plus. Here are the differences:
Design
The TVS Sport and TVS Star City Plus both come with a practical commuter design and features stylish graphics. But there are a few key differences that make them unique offerings.
First, the headlight section. The Sport gets a plain headlight cowl while the TVS Star City Plus comes with a headlight section that features a brushed metal finish along the headlight, giving the bike a more premium look overall.
The side panels of both bikes are different and the Star City Plus get panels which extend all the way from the fuel tank to the rear section and the graphics have a bit of continuity. Meanwhile, the one on the Sport is relatively plain and blacked out, and interrupts the design flow.
The graphics featured on both motorcycles are quite different and reveal a bit about the character of the bikes. The base variant of the Sport comes without fancy livery, and honestly, looks pretty clean. The TVS Sport (ELS variant) comes with stylish graphics that reflect sportiness while the Star City Plus’ graphics are more reflective of the bike’s premium appeal.
Features
The Star City Plus is ahead of the TVS Sport here, with features such as a segment-first LED headlight and a semi-digital instrument cluster. The console displays service reminder, a malfunction indicator, and an econometer along with the standard readouts like speed, fuel level, odometer and tripmeters. It also comes with a USB charging socket which is placed behind the headlight cowl.
The TVS Sport, on the other hand, is more focused on getting the essentials right. It comes with a halogen headlight and an analogue instrument cluster with a speedometer, odometer, and fuel gauge. TVS has also given it an econometer light which allows the riders to know when they are riding the bike in a way that maximises mileage.
Underpinnings
The suspension setup on both bikes is based on a telescopic fork and dual shock absorbers at the rear, with 5-step preload adjustability.
The major difference, though, comes in their braking hardware. While the TVS Star City Plus is offered in two variants: Disc and Drum.
The disc variant features a 240mm disc in the front and a 110mm drum in the rear, while the drum variant comes with a 130mm front and 110mm rear drum. The TVS Sport meanwhile, doesn’t get disc brakes in either the ES or ELS variant. That said, both bikes get CBS (Combined Braking System) as standard for added safety.
Verdict
When looking at pricing, the TVS Sport ES variant, which comes with no fancy graphics or sporty livery, starts at an ex-showroom price of Rs 59,431, making it the cheapest TVS bike in India. The higher-end ELS variant comes at Rs 70,773.
The more premium TVS Star City Plus on the other hand starts at an ex-showroom price of Rs 78,770 for the dual-tone drum variant and Rs 81,920 for the dual-tone disc variant.
In the end, which bike you should choose depends on what you are looking for. If you want something that is simple, practical and very affordable then the TVS Sport is a good option. But if you want your bike to come with a bit more features and also give a premium vibe, then the TVS Star City Plus is what you are looking for.
