The company has also announced details about its new manufacturing plant in Bengaluru

The Ultraviolette F77 will hit the market early next year. Preorders will commence later this year. The F77 offers a claimed top speed of 140kmph, and a claimed range of 150km.

Bengaluru-based electric motorcycle startup Ultraviolette has announced that the first batch of its maiden product, the Ultraviolette F77, will hit the market in March 2022. The company has also revealed details of its new production plant in Electronics City, Bengaluru, where it will start making the F77 from the first quarter of next year. Ultraviolette says preorders for the F77 will commence later this year.

The company unveiled the F77 electric bike back in November 2019. Deliveries were supposed to commence from October 2020 but the ongoing coronavirus pandemic delayed Ultraviolette’s plans. In the meanwhile, the company has been working on making the F77 better in terms of specs and features. You can read all about the availability and service strategy in our exclusive report here.

The newly set up manufacturing plant is spread over an area of 70,000sq ft., and will be capable of producing 15,000 units in the first year. This will then be scaled up to 1,20,000 units in the future. Ultraviolette will be employing over 500 people in the course of the next five years.

The Ultraviolette F77 has been designed and developed in India. Speaking about the new facility and emphasising on its made-in-india genes, the company’s founder and CEO, Narayan Subramaniam, says, “This is an important milestone for us in our journey towards building a superior EV experience for India and International markets. We chose this location given its strategic proximity to our R&D facility in Bengaluru as well as a strong supply-chain ecosystem in and around the region. We have received an overwhelming response for the F77 and this facility will help us cater to that demand over the next few years. Most importantly, the F77 has been designed and built indigenously and over 90% of the vehicle including the battery packs, will be manufactured using locally sourced components.”

The Ultraviolette F77 will be the first performance-oriented electric motorcycle in India. It is claimed to offer a top speed of 140kmph, and a claimed real-world range starting from 150km. Another variant with a higher range is in the works.

The manufacturer has worked on the chassis, vehicle control unit, instrumentation, and the battery packs to offer much better overall performance and dynamics than the motorcycle shown back in 2019. You can read more about our impressions of the pre-production model here. The electric motorcycle will also get over the air (OTA) updates, regenerative braking, multiple ride modes, bike tracking and ride diagnostics.

With all these updates, expect the base variant to start from around Rs 3 lakh, while the version with a longer range could cost around Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom). That said, the final price is likely to be much lower thanks to the new revised FAME II incentives. Certain states also offer local subsidies, which should sweeten the deal even more.
