Upcoming 4-cylinder Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R Could Get Two Variants
[Update: Kawasaki has launched the Ninja ZX-25 in Indonesia. Know prices and more details here.]
The top-end version could get premium underpinnings and rider aids
Kawasaki has reportedly been working on a small-capacity but ridiculously powerful Ninja called the ZX-25R. It will be a quarter-litre sportsbike with an inline four-cylinder motor. What's special about this 250cc motor is that it is rumoured to rev up to 20,000rpm and deliver 60PS. For perspective, that's 11PS more than the Kawasaki Ninja 400.
Now fresh reports suggest that the Ninja ZX-25R could come in two variants. While not much has been revealed, the Ninja could be available in standard variant and a special ZX25RR variant. The top-spec bike could feature premium kit like high-spec adjustable suspension, better tyres and premium radial brake components. It could also get electronic rider aids like traction control and rider modes.
A small capacity, high-performance bike should work well in South Asian countries like Indonesia where larger capacity bikes attract a higher tax. So basically you get fantastic performance and do not have to pay much in taxes thanks to the ZX-25R’s lower displacement. That said, it will not be that affordable. In Indonesia, the ZX-25R is expected to be priced at the equivalent of Rs 5 lakh. Kawasaki could launch the bike there as early as April-March 2020, most likely at the Kawasaki Bike Week. However, we might see the bike in concept form this year at the EICMA motorcycle show.
Will it come to India? Highly unlikely. Even if Kawasaki brings the ZX-25R to India via the CKD route, it would cost significantly more than the Ninja 400, which at Rs 4.99 lakh is an expensive bike itself.
