Upcoming Electric Two-Wheelers In India
Update: Revolt has launched the R400 and RV300. Read all about it here. We have also ridden the RV400. You can check out the first ride review here.
We list the electric motorcycles and scooters that will be launched in India soon
With the government pushing towards an electric revolution, electric two-wheelers are the next big thing. We have several startups working on bringing feature-packed electric vehicles to the masses. Even industry bigwigs like TVS and Bajaj are working on electric two-wheelers. Here are the more significant electric two-wheelers which you could see launched before or during the Auto Expo in February next year.
Revolt RV400:
This electric motorcycle will launch in India sooner than you think. The Revolt RV400 is set to debut on our roads on August 28 and is the first electric bike to make its debut in India. Bookings for the motorcycle are already underway in the Delhi NCR region with deliveries set to begin in September. It gets swappable batteries with an ARAI certified range of 156km. Apart from LED lighting and digital instrument console, the RV400 gets AI-based technology that improves battery technology depending on your riding style. Its niftiest feature, though, has to be the artificial engine sounds that can be customised to make the silent electric bike sound like a V-twin or in-line four-cylinder motor. When launched, the RV400 is expected to be priced around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom).
Tork T6X:
The Tork T6X has been under development for a long time. However, a near-production T6X test mule was spotted testing at the start of this year. The motorcycle gets a 6KW motor that delivers 27Nm of torque. It is powerful enough for the T6X to cruise at a speed of 100kmph. It has a claimed range of 100km with the capability of charging the battery upto 80 per cent in an hour. The T6X gets a trellis frame with conventional forks and a monoshock. Braking is via disc brakes at both ends with combined braking system as standard. The Tork T6X is expected to be launched by the end of the year/early next year at an expected price tag of Rs 1.5 lakh.
Emflux One:
The Emflux One has been billed as India’s first electric superbike and was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. Underneath its sharp faired bodywork sits some serious hardware. Its liquid-cooled AC induction electric motor is capable of producing 81.5PS and 84Nm of torque. It propels the Emflux One from 0-100kmph in a scant 3 seconds and a top speed of 200kmph. The liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack offers a range of 200km and can charge from 0 to 85 per cent in 30 minutes. Emflux is expected to launch the One by the end of this year, pricing the base variant at around Rs 5.5 lakh. They recently unveiled two naked electric sports bikes called the Two and Two +.

Bajaj Urbanite:
Bajaj’s first electric product might be called the Chetak as a tribute to one of its most successful and popular scooters. From the spied images of the test mule, we can gather that the scooter will get conventional bodywork. It will have a full-digital instrument console and expected to get other features like LED lighting, Bluetooth, GPS navigation and ride modes. Bajaj is working with Bosch to develop its electric platform and we can expect a reasonably powerful electric powertrain. According to sources, the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter will launch within the next 2 to 3 months and be priced a shade above Rs 1 lakh.
TVS Creon:
TVS showcased the Creon electric scooter concept at the 2018 Auto Expo. The futuristic-looking moto-scooter concept came with app-based cloud connectivity, geofencing, GPS, park assist, safety and anti-theft features. Other goodies included LED lighting and a colour TFT instrument console. TVS has been tight-lipped about their electric programme so details about the motor and battery range are scarce. While test mule of what looks like an electric version of the Jupiter has been spotted, it is quite possible that TVS could launch a Creon inspired electric scooter at the 2020 Auto Expo.
Harley Livewire:
Yes, Harley-Davidson will bring the LiveWire to India. The first electric bike from the American bikemaker will be unveiled in India on August 27. This is a proper performance machine as its electric motor makes 105PS of power and 116Nm of torque! That allows the bike to go from 0 to 96.5kmph in 3 seconds and 96.5kmph to 128.7kmph in just 1.9 seconds! The battery gives it a range of upto 235km in the city. With DC fast charging, you can charge the battery upto 80 percent in 40 minutes and upto 100 percent in an hour! However, the LiveWire would be an expensive proposition. In the USA, the LiveWire costs USD 29,799, which is around Rs 21.2 lakh. As it will come to India via the CBU route, with customs duties, we expect the LiveWire to cost upwards of Rs 30 lakh here. The LiveWire is expected to debut in India later this year.
