The 2021 Honda CBR650R has been unveiled overseas. The bike receives a comprehensive set of updates for the upcoming year including a new gloss black colour, LCD console as well as a redesigned headlight and side fairing which makes it look much sharper than before.

On the mechanical side of things, the bike’s 649cc inline four-cylinder motor has been updated to meet stricter emissions -- courtesy of a revised ECU, cam lobes, intake timing, exhaust system and crankshaft. Thanks to this, the engine retains the exact same performance as before -- 95PS at 12,000rpm and 63Nm at 8500rpm. You get traction control in terms of rider aids and a 6-speed transmission with a slip and assist clutch.

Hardware updates come in the form of a tweaked chassis which according to Honda offers better rigidity and flexibility. The front suspension has been swapped out for 41mm Showa Separate Function Big Piston upside-down forks for better feedback and stability during cornering. It retains its pro-link monoshock. The bike is anchored by twin 310mm front discs with radially mounted Nissin calipers and a 240mm rear disc.

Expect Honda to launch the updated CBR650R early next year with a hefty premium. The BS4 CBR650R, for reference, costs Rs 7.7 lakh (ex-showroom). The BS6 CBR650R will compete with the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the upcoming Benelli 600RR.
