Upcoming KTM 390 Adventure Spotted Once Again In India
New spy images reveal more details
[Update: KTM 390 Adventure Launched In India: Head Here For More Information.]
While we have been seeing a lot of spy images of the upcoming KTM 390 Adventure, these new images give us a closer look at a stationary test mule. We now have a clearer look at the instrument console, switchgear and handlebar mounting and luggage mounting points.
We know that the 390 Adventure will share parts with the KTM 390 Duke and expected the current-gen Duke’s colour TFT instrument console to show up on the Adventure as well. However, a closer look at the images reveals an additional screen on top of the TFT screen. Given the adventure focus, this small screen could display anything from a compass to an altimeter or even step by step navigation. Or it could just be a part of the testing equipment. Your guess is as good as ours.
While we had earlier spotted a KTM test mule fitted with luggage accessories, the number plate on this bike suggests it is the same one sans the panniers and top box. This gives us a clearer look at the rear rack and saddle mounts, which like the luggage bins, could be optional accessories. This is a possibility given that another 390 Adventure test mule was previously spotted without the luggage accessories or mounts. The saddlebags seem to mount on three points on the mounting system, which look lightweight but robust. Even the tail rack seems to add little weight to the bike and is possibly mounted on four bolts (2 visible and 2 hidden) on the frame. It too appears to be designed to hold the top box on three points and has an indentation designed for the seat. On both the saddlebag frames and tail rack, the third point appears to be a lock which attaches or releases the luggage bags.
Given its touring aspirations, the 390 Adventure test mule does have a large fuel tank that appears to extend below the seat. On the front, you have a new and reinforced triple tree clamp. While the current generation 390 Duke has the ignition key slot mounted on the fuel tank, on the 390 Adventure it seems to have been relocated below the instrument console.
We expect the 390 Adventure to be powered by the same 373cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor as the 390 Duke. While we expect power output to be the same 43PS and 37Nm of torque, gearing on the 390 adventure could be shorter for it to perform better off-road. Of course, it will get longer-travel WP suspension and larger wheels with on-/off-road touring tyres.
The 390 Adventure is expected to debut at EICMA later this year followed by a late 2019 India launch. We expect the 390 Adventure to be priced around the Rs 3 lakh (ex-showroom) mark where it would undercut its closest rivals, the BMW G310 GS and Kawasaki Versys X300.
