Upcoming TVS Fiero: What We Would Like To See

Modified On Nov 9, 2020 02:25 PM By Benjamin Noel Gracias for TVS Raider

TVS could be reviving the Fiero soon. Here’s what we would like it to be

[UPDATE: TVS has launched its 125cc offering, called the Raider. To know the specs, pricing and other details, head to our launch story here]

TVS has trademarked the Fiero 125 name along with Raider, Zeppelin R and Retron. TVS used to sell the Fiero in India and could use its name for a new motorcycle. While we do not know much beyond the name, here’s what we would like to seen in the new motorcycle:

Sporty motor:

As the name signifies, the upcoming motorcycle is expected to have a 125cc motor. The original Fiero was the first performance-oriented 150cc motorcycle from TVS and we hope the new Fiero 125 also goes the performance way. TVS already has a 125cc performance mill in the NTorq 125. This three-valve fuel-injected single cylinder motor could be adapted to a five-speed transmission for the Fiero 125. In the NTorq, the motor develops 9.38PS and 10.5Nm but we reckon TVS can eke out 1 or 2PS more out of it. One example is the TVS Flame 125 which used a similar 3-valve motor like the NTorq and delivered 10.64PS and 10Nm.

Sporty styling:

We expect TVS to target the premium 125cc space, currency occupied by the Bajaj Pulsar 125 and Honda SP 125, with the Fiero 125. We do not expect the Fiero to use the Apache RTR’s styling but rather have an all-new design with the RTR’s design influences. It could be feature packed as well with an LED headlamp and digital instrument console with Bluetooth from the Jupiter and NTorq.

Sporty underpinnings:

TVS could raid the Apache RTR 160 4V parts bin and equip the Fiero with a synchro-stiff frame, Showa forks and monoshock. It could skip ABS if engine capacity is maintained below 125cc.

Pricing and launch date:

TVS could price the Fiero 125 competitively at around Rs 70,000, thereby undercutting the Honda SP 125. The all-new motorcycle could be launched by mid-2021. Stay tuned for more updates.
