Watch: Did You Know Rahul Gandhi Owns A KTM 390 Duke?
The politician interacted with bike mechanics in Karol Bagh about their journeys, daily life and struggles
Rahul Gandhi has been on his Bharat Jodo Yatra for some time now and his latest pitstop is the famous Karol Bagh bike market in New Delhi. The market, supposedly, has over 100 mechanics working on everything from entry-level motorcycles to litre-class bikes. Rahul Gandhi met with some of them to understand their journeys, daily life and the difficulties they face in their line of work.
The video shows him walking through the alleys and meeting different mechanics. Some of them work on repairing engines whereas others are more involved in customisation. They also talk about how, despite the hard labour, they are not paid enough to take care of their necessities in life. They also talk about how they learned their skills and got into the industry.
Funnily enough, during one of the conversions, one of the mechanics asked Rahul Gandhi if he owns any motorcycle, to which he replied that he owns a KTM 390 (probably a Duke). But he also said that his security team does not allow him to ride around in it. The bright orange colour being a factor, maybe?
The final bit shows Rahul Gandhi working on a Hero Splendor with some of the mechanics. At the end, he talks about building a better environment for the mechanics and opportunities for them to grow their business. Maybe if he manages to relax the strict Indian rules on modifying vehicles (at least for the less-intrusive ones) in the process, that’ll be great.
