Weird Flex: Meet The Chinese Lookalike Of The BMW R 1250 GS
The Moxiao MX500-7D may look like a clone of one of the world's greatest ADVs, but it's powered by a humble 471cc parallel-twin heart
The BMW R 1250 GS is a name that’s synonymous with adventure touring. With robust German ingenuity, it is indeed the ultimate terrain tamer. Of course, when you have such a benchmark, you’re bound to witness certain examples that stay true to the saying, “Imitation is the simplest form of flattery". One such doppelganger of the OG GS is the Moxiao MX500-7D.
This isn't the Chinese manufacturer’s first rodeo as the company had already launched a Ducati Panigale 959 lookalike earlier. Coming back to the MX500-7D, it gets similar styling elements as the BMW R 1250 GS such as a sharp beak up front, a tall windscreen, knuckle guards, an asymmetrical headlamp, split seats, a tail rack, spoke wheels (compatible with tubeless tyres) and panniers on both sides. Almost every aspect of the original GS seems to have been shamelessly imitated, however, when it comes to the size, heft and fit finish, the ADV just doesn't stand a chance.

While the real deal employs a 1,254cc boxer engine, the MX500-7D on the other hand, is powered by a much smaller 471cc, parallel-twin engine that seems similar to the one that does duty on the Honda CB500 series, dishing out 45.62PS. Of course, instead of the trademark shaft drive in the original GS, this one gets a much simpler chain drive.

If only Moxiao were original while designing the motorcycle.
If you are looking for a sub-500cc ADV in India, then you can take a look at the KTM 390 Adventure or the Honda CB500X, which recently received a massive price cut. Another worthy alternative would be the Benelli TRK 502X.
