Weird Flex: This Cruiser Looks Like The Lovechild Of Triumph Bobber And The Speedmaster

The Hanway B50 cruiser has been unveiled at this year’s Beijing Motor Show

Chinese two-wheeler manufacturer Hanway has taken the wraps off its latest cruiser, the B50, at the Beijing Motor Show. Its design seems to be a shameless khichdi of the gorgeous Triumph Bonneville Bobber and the versatile Bonneville Speedmaster, wrapped in a 2-for-1 package.

Unlike the real deal from Britain, this motorcycle is powered by a smaller, albeit indigenously developed 498cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. It churns out 47.5PS at 8350rpm and 45Nm at 6000rpm -- healthy figures for a motorcycle of this segment. For perspective, the Honda Rebel 500’s heart makes 45.5PS and 44.6Nm. In a typical cruiser fashion, this motorcycle uses a belt drive to transfer power to the rear wheel. 

The front telescopic fork is gaitered for a more butch look, and like the Triumph, this one too comes with a swing cage-like swingarm with a linked monoshock hidden beneath the rider’s seat. Like the Speedmaster, this one also gets a proper pillion seat for extra practicality. The 16-inch spoke wheels are wrapped with meaty 130-section front and 150-section rear rubber from Timsun. 

The motorcycle’s LED headlamp and DRL look eerily similar to the Triumph. It even gets a wide handlebar with bar-end mirrors, an identical single-pod instrument cluster with a semi-digital and multifunction layout, and a pair of blacked-out slash-cut exhausts. 

Overall, while the mechanicals are impressive, we wish Hanway had designed a unique cruiser. If the company has the potential to make its own engine from the ground up, designing the rest of the motorcycle shouldn’t be a Herculean task, should it?
