Yamaha FZ 25 BS6: All You Need To Know

Five important points that’ll bring you up to pace with the BS6-compliant FZ 25

Yamaha first unveiled the BS6 FZ 25 in February and was slated to launch it around April. However, due to the current COVID-19 lockdown, the launch has been deferred to the early weeks of May. As for the bike itself, it gets a new front fascia, a new ‘S’ variant, and much more. Without further ado, here are five important points that’ll tell you everything there is to know about the updated FZ 25.

Updated Design:

The most prominent difference between the BS4 and BS6 model is the front fascia, which does away with the full-LED headlight setup for a projector headlamp flanked by LED DRLs. The previous-gen bike had some serious issues with the throw and spread of the headlight and we believe the change could possibly improve that. 

Other than that, the BS6 FZ 25 features a revised digital instrument console, an underbelly cowl, and a side stand engine cut-off switch.

New ‘S’ Variant:

The new FZS 25 variant offers a bit more in terms of features and is pegged as a tourer. It comes equipped with a taller visor for better wind deflection, knuckle guards, and three new colours, two of which get funky golden wheels.  

BS6-compliant Powertrain:

The FZ 25 is powered by a BS6-compliant 249cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine. The tweaked motor, despite having fuel-injection, a new ECU and a larger cat-con, makes the same power as before -- 20.8PS at 8000rpm and 20.1Nm at 6000rpm. It makes do with the same 5-speed transmission as before, however, we believe an extra cog would have made the FZ 25 an excellent highway tourer. It would have also helped the bike extract more fuel efficiency. 

Weight Gain:

Usually, the transition from BS4 to BS6 has most two-wheelers gaining 4-6kg of weight, but not the FZ 25. Just like the FS-Fi series, Yamaha has managed to keep the weight of the bike as low as possible. Basically, the BS6 FZ 25 has only gained 1kg over the BS4 model, which tipped the scale at 152kg.

Expected Price:

As mentioned earlier, the BS6 FZ 25 will be launched in the early weeks of May 2020. As for the slightly more premium FZS 25, it's launch details will be announced later this year. Unfortunately, Yamaha has not revealed the price of the bike, but we expect the standard FZ 25 to carry a premium of around Rs 3,000-Rs 5,000 while the FZS 25 may set you back by an additional Rs 4,000 to Rs 7,000. The BS4 Yamaha FZ 25 retails at Rs 1,36,680. It goes up against the Suzuki Gixxer 250 and the recently launched Dominar 250.
