Yamaha FZ-Fi V3.0 BS6 Vs FZ-Fi V3.0 BS4: Which One To Buy?

Modified On Apr 1, 2020 05:00 PM By Gaurav Sadanand for Yamaha FZ-FI V3

Which version makes for a better bet?

Yamaha’s BS6-compliant FZ-Fi and FZS-Fi are now on sale. However, the difference in prices and performance between the BS6 models and the BS4 ones it will eventually replace is quite negligible. And that begs the question of which one you should opt for. Hence, we’ve penned down a couple of differences which should help you make a better decision.

Difference In Performance?

The updated models are powered by a BS6-compliant 149cc air-cooled motor that offers 12.4PS at 7250rpm (down by 0.8PS) and 13.6Nm of torque (0.8Nm more than before) at 5500rpm. In fact, the peak power and torque outputs are delivered at lower rpms than before which means there's more power lower down the rev range. This should make the BS6 models better to ride within city limits.

Hardware Changes?

Both the BS6 and BS4 FZ-Fi and FZS-Fi share the same underpinnings. They get a telescopic front fork and a monoshock with disc brakes at both ends. Single-channel ABS comes as standard.

Any Differences Aesthetically?

The only visual difference, so to speak, is the new colour options on the BS6 FZS-FI -- Darknight and Metallic Red. If you opt for the Darknight livery, it will cost you Rs 1,02,700, which is Rs 1,500 more than the standard colour options.

So Which One Should You Choose?

The BS6 FZ-Fi and FZS-Fi will set you back by Rs 99,200 and Rs 1,01,200 (both ex-showroom India), respectively. That’s a premium of Rs 2,500 for the FZ-Fi and Rs 2,600 for the FZS-Fi. The minor price difference gets you new colour options to choose from (for the FZS-Fi) and a future-proof engine which offers better rideability in the city.

Yes, you’ve got a few more days to opt for the BS4 FZ-Fi and FZS-Fi, but at what cost? All you'd end up saving is around Rs 2,600. For us then, it's a no brainer. The BS6 FZ-Fi and FZS-Fi is the way to go.
