Modified On Jun 1, 2021 01:46 PM By Manaal Mahatme for Yamaha FZS 25

The FZ25 is now cheaper than the Yamaha MT-15!

In a surprise move, Yamaha India has announced a massive drop in the prices of the FZ 25 duo. Now, the standard Yamaha FZ 25 costs Rs 1,34,800 while the FZS 25 has been priced at Rs 1,39,300, which is Rs 18,800 and Rs 19,300 less than the earlier pricing. Despite the price reduction, no changes have been made to the equipment. So, what prompted the Japanese manufacturer to slash prices?

Yamaha Motor India states that the increasing input costs had shot up the ex-showroom prices of the bike. However, the brand has managed to bring down these input costs and consequently, reduce the pricing of its offerings. But is there more to it than just rising manufacturing costs?

The 250cc segment in India hasn’t been quite a moneymaker for manufacturers, despite attempts from brands such as KTM, Suzuki and Bajaj. Yamaha kicked off the segment but soon found itself outshined by competition. Though the Japanese brand has tried to give the bike a new lease of life with the BS6 update, it hasn’t worked in its favour. Yamaha managed to sell only 182 units of the FZ 25 in April. In comparison to 1,089 units of the KTM 250 Duke and 250 Adventure, 461 units of the Bajaj Dominar 250, the bike’s sales numbers are quite low.

The Yamaha FZ 25 falls short on features as well as performance, and despite its good refinement and comfortable ergonomics, it’s best suited as a commuter. To know more details about the Japanese quarter-litre warrior, read our road test review. With the new pricing, the FZ 25 is now affordable than the Yamaha MT-15, which is priced at Rs 1.39 lakh. The next affordable bike from the 250cc segment is the Suzuki Gixxer 250 that carries a price tag of Rs 1.67 lakh (ex-showroom). Will the price difference tempt buyers to go for the FZ 25?
