Yamaha Neo's Electric Scooter Launched In The European Market

Modified On Mar 11, 2022 04:02 PM By Team Bikedekho

Offers performance equivalent to a 50cc petrol-powered scooter, and features removable batteries

Yamaha has launched the Neo's electric scooter in the European market. It carries a premium price tag of GBP 3,005 (around Rs 3 lakh) and it will be available at European dealerships from May.

Talking about the design, the electric scooter gets a sleek and futuristic look. Its fascia mounts twin LED headlights and handlebar-mounted slim LED turn indicators. The headlight design is similar to the original Neo’s, which is a 50cc petrol-powered European scooter, which was popular in the 90s.

The side of the Yamaha Neo's gets a neat and clean look, and it gets a 'Neo's' sticker on its rear fender. The tail section of the electric scooter looks sharp, and it gets a rear mudguard-mounted slim LED taillight.

The Yamaha Neo's uses a 50.4V, 19.2Ah Lithium-Ion battery that lends it a claimed range of 38.5km on eco mode. This battery pack weighs 8kg, and takes 8 hours to fully charge via a 220V AC wall charger. Propelling the electric scooter is a brushless DC hub motor. In Std mode, it produces 2.06kW with a top speed of 40kmph, and in Eco mode, it makes 1.58kW, lending it a top speed of 35kmph.

On the features front, the Yamaha Neo's is offered with two riding modes (Standard and Eco) and generous 27-litres of under-seat storage space that can hold an open face helmet or an additional battery with a few small personal items. Other notable features include keyless start and a small LCD instrument that can be paired to the smartphone via the Yamaha MyRide app. This console displays speed, battery level, time and call and message alerts.

The ride of the Neo's is taken care of by a KYB telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. For braking, it uses a disc-drum setup.

The seat height of the electric scooter is 795mm, and it weighs 90kg (without a battery). This setup makes manoeuvring the e-scooter in tight spaces easier for shorter riders. The Neo's ground clearance of 135mm seems quite less on paper. However, it won't be a problem as the e-scooter will be used in the European market.

Yamaha will launch an electric two-wheeler developed specifically for India instead of bringing the Neo’s here. But if you are looking for an entry-level electric scooter here, the Bounce Infinity E1Hero Electric Optima and the BGauss A2 are a few options that you can consider.
