Yamaha Planning to Launch Honda CBR650F Rival Soon
Yamaha is planning to enter the mid-weight touring sports segment in the Indian two-wheeler market, which can become a burden for Kawasaki Ninja 650 followed by Benelli and Honda. Yasuo Ishihara, Yamaha Motor Research & Development India President, said in an interview to Autocar professional that the Indian handle of the Japanese manufacturer is in talks to introduce a Honda CBR650F rival for the sub-continent. But the name of the model in the mid-wight touring motorcycle space was not disclosed in the interview.
If the line up is considered, there is a possibility that a 600cc in-line four cylinders, fully faired and touring spec FZ6R would grab its space into the Indian market.

Stating the future product strategy of the company, Ishira said, “This is related to the marketing strategy and manufacturing condition, but personally I want to expand in an over-500cc segment. Honda has recently launched the CBR650F (in India) and we want to catch up. If everybody in our company agrees, then we can introduce such a model very quickly as we have it in other countries. Initially, we can bring it as a CKD.”
Specified date for the launch of Honda CBR650F’s assassin was not revealed as Yamaha is yet to finalise the product for Indian roads. But if the things run in a smooth way, we might get to see the mid-weight sports touring vehicle flying on Indian streets by the end of 2016 or early 2017.
