Yamaha R15 V3 BS6 vs BS4: Differences Explained

Modified On Dec 9, 2019 05:56 PM By Gaurav Sadanand for Yamaha R15S

Here’s just how much the Yamaha R15 V3 BS6 has changed over the previous iteration

The wave of updated BS6 compliant two-wheelers brings with it the updated Yamaha R15 V3. Not only does it get a greener, more fuel efficient motor, but it also comes with a couple of more features compared to the BS4-compliant model. Here’s what’s changed and what has been retained.

Gets new features:

The BS6-compliant R15 V3 now comes equipped with a rear radial tubeless tyre, a dual horn setup and a side-stand engine cut-off feature that prevents unintentional engine startups.

New colour schemes on offer:

Racing Blue and Thundergrey receive new graphics while the Darknight colour variant remains unchanged. Interestingly, the R15’s Racing Blue paint variant now features blue wheels like the Indonesian model instead of black ones with blue rim stickers. Unfortunately, the BS6 model isn’t available in the MotoGP limited edition version.

Produces less power:

The updated engine does trade in power for lower tailpipe emissions. In essence, the BS6 version generates 18.6PS of power at 10,000rpm and 14.1Nm of peak torque at 8500rpm. In comparison, the BS4 model makes 19.3PS and 14.7Nm at the same revs. That said, the motor still retains its slipper clutch along with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) which offers better low and mid-range grunt.

Gets a price hike:

Of course, the changes come at a cost. Take the Thunder Grey paint scheme, for instance. It now costs Rs 1,45,300, which is Rs 4,420 dearer than the older model. Darknight, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 1,47,300, a bump of Rs 4,420. Last but not least, the 2019 Racing Blue version will set you back by Rs 1,45,900, a hike of Rs 5,020.

Aside from this, the Yamaha R15 V3.0 remains unchanged. It packs the same chassis, suspension and braking setup as before with dual-channel ABS.
