Yamaha XSR125 Unveiled Globally
It meets European A1 licensing laws, so it's suitable for learners
Motorcycling can seem so very attractive as a kid. But the experience can be underwhelming if you’re forced to learn on some crummy little gutless motorcycle, or worse still, a scooter. To spice things up for debutants, Yamaha has unveiled the rather handsome-looking XSR125, which complies with European A1 licensing laws, and hence, is available for learners.
Powered by a liquid-cooled 124cc single-cylinder motor churning out exactly 11kW (14.96PS) and 11.5Nm, the motorcycle sits right on the upper limit of the A1 class. So Yamaha engineers have been wise. It also weighs just 140kg (kerb), so the little XSR should be quite sprightly, relatively speaking.
With the same striking neo-retro design language as the XSR155, neat touches like an upside-down fork, LED lighting, and quirky digital instrumentation, the XSR125 seems anything but entry-level. It’s even held together by Yamaha’s signature Deltabox frame! There’s a monoshock at the rear and disc brakes at both ends.
An official price hasn’t been announced yet. Yamaha says deliveries will commence in the first week of June, so a price announcement should be around the corner.
Will it come to India? Well, with the R15 and MT-15 already available in India, the logical XSR option would be the XSR155. Unfortunately, Yamaha's immediate focus is on the upcoming FZ-X instead, so don’t get your hopes too high. Nevertheless, there is an outside chance that we might receive the XSR155 at some point in the near future.
