Game Changer with Some Flaws
Game Changer with Some Flaws
INTRODUCTION:
Before the launch of TVS Jupiter, the scooter market was immensely dominated by the Honda’s Activa. TVS Jupiter is not only the enormous success in its segment, but also constrain other manufacturers to induce in bringing up new scooters in the market with more features in the same price range, which ultimately lead to the outcome to an enormous variety of scooters in today’s market. So, basically, it is a "Game changer" scooter.
SHORTLISTING:
I bought TVS Jupiter 4 years back, at that point in time, according to my budget, I was having 4 options Hero Maestro, Honda Activa, Honda Aviator and TVS Jupiter.
Both of the Honda Scooters are quite similar, but between them, I like Aviator more, but the alloy wheel model was out of my budget so I have left out with two options, Maestro and Jupiter but I ended up choosing Jupiter over the other 3 scooters for the following reason:
Fit and Finish is excellent than the other three.
Colours available are more attractive
It was the only scooter with alloy wheels
The company was claiming 62 KMPL, higher than its rival.
Another factor which might not be the deal breaker for many, but I was fond of the exhaust note of TVS Jupiter.
BUYING EXPERIENCE:
I simply booked the scooter with Rs. 500, and the next day I got the colour of my choice, and finally bought the scooter with depositing the total amount of the cost of Scooter. So, the buying experience was quite easy and effortless. (Though I suggest you, test ride every scooter you shortlist and then decide, and another factor please check whether you are receiving a brand new packed product).
PROS & CONS:
Pros:
Fit and Finish is better than its rival scooters.
Colours available are quite unique and elegant.
Under Seat, storage is quite adequate.
Alloy wheels are available from its base model.
The exhaust note is quite sporty.
The fuel cap is external, which is quite handy.
Scooter parts are quite affordable.
It is the first scooter to come with a metallic body at that price segment (though the whole body is not metallic).
Cons:
Fuel economy is good but not great, and the company’s claim of 62 KMPL is completely erroneous and misleading advertisement.
The seat can be more comfortable, not suitable for a long ride.
Fuel Tank is not substantial.
Engine tends to heat after 30 KM ride, and eventually, after 35-40 KM it shuts down automatically and doesn’t start until it gets cool down. (It may be faced by few customers, unfortunately, I am one of them)
A long ride is a nightmare with this scooter.
Sometimes, the lack of power in pick up becomes an issue.
The under-seat storage can be opened without keys, by pulling the wire connected directly to the lock, here security is highly compromised.
Breaking is average.
PERFORMANCE:
Performance is ample enough for the city traffic and for a 110cc scooter. The pace of the pick up is quite sufficient, though sometimes you will feel the lack of pickup. Handling through the traffic is also effortless.
The comfort level is satisfactory for a short city ride, but long distance ride may be quite stiff due to the seat and suspension. Seat height is also quite comfy for the shorter people.
MAINTENANCE:
After sales service:
Don’t miss the free service, the free service does not include accessories or oil or any other items, only the servicing and cleaning.
Experience of the service is average as they cannot fix my issue of heating up of the engine even after four years.
Every time you will get a bill for something at least, I never get to have a completely free service.
After the free service its better to have service from the outside local store, as it is cheaper and the quality of the service will be more satisfactory.
Paid Service will be between 500-700 from TVS and outside 350-450.
Cost of accessories is quite affordable.
FEW EXTRA TIPS:
Always try to buy a seal packed two-wheeler, as they might provide you with a vehicle from the show which might be a defective piece of product.
Check the vehicle carefully whether it has any scratches or marks or dents.
Change Engine oil or Mobil every 2500 KM.
Don’t let water get into the engine pump while you wash your vehicle.
Take Care of your vehicle, keep it clean and fresh.
OVERALL IT IS A GREAT SCOOTER AS A WHOLE, IT WILL NOT BREAK YOUR BANK,
ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET WHILE RIDING AND PILLION AS WELL.
