TVS is an abbreviation of the company’s founder’s name, Thirukkurungudi Vengaram Sundram Iyengar. The brand was first established in 1911, when T V Sundram Iyengar started Southern Roadways Limited, a bus company, which was the foundation of the TVS Group. The brand started its foray into the automotive industry in 1976 when they started manufacturing mopeds from their Hosur manufacturing plant.
TVS is a fully Indian-owned company, and comes under the TVS Group. The brand is headquartered in Hosur and their main manufacturing facility is also located there. Currently, TVS is India’s second largest two-wheeler manufacturer in terms of revenue.
TVS is not owned by Suzuki, but in the precursor to TVS, Sundaram Clayton Limited had entered into a joint venture with Suzuki Motor Corporation. The joint venture was focused on production of motorcycles, with Suzuki’s technical expertise. This partnership with Suzuki resulted in many iconic 100cc two-stroke bikes being produced in India such as the Samurai, Shogun, Shaolin and Supra. This partnership came to an end in 2001, with Sundaram Clayton and Suzuki splitting. TVS Group subsequently got full ownership of Sundaram Clayton and renamed it TVS Motor Company.
The first bike that was launched by TVS in India was the 100cc two-stroke commuter named Ind-Suzuki AX100. The bike, as the name suggests, was built in collaboration with Suzuki during their partnership. After the companies split, TVS developed a fully indigenous commuter bike called the TVS Victor. The Victor featured a 4-stroke engine.

- TVS Apache RR 310I’ve been riding the RR310,I’ve been riding the RR310, and it’s been an amazing experience so far. My variant comes with a quick shifter, which feels incredibly smooth during gear transitions. The cruise control is a great addition, making long rides much more comfortable. I’m also really happy with the seat and suspension setup—it offers great comfort and balance. That said, it does take a few days to fully get in sync with the bike. But once you do, the ride becomes butter-smooth, and you can truly enjoy its performance and handling. Overall, a great bike for both daily rides and long toursRead MoreWas this review helpful?
