About Ducati SuperSport 950

Ducati has once again extended its BS6 lineup in India, this time launching the 2021 SuperSport 950. The bike is priced at Rs 13.49 lakh for the base variant and Rs 15.49 lakh for the S variant (ex-showroom India). Check out our launch story for full details.

Design-wise the SuperSport looks sharper and sportier than ever before thanks to the redesigned fairing which extends all the way to the exhaust. Its LED headlight now looks a lot like the Panigale V4 and even features fins to funnel air to the rider’s legs, thus improving thermal comfort. You also get a new two-step adjustable visor up front, for improved wind protection.

It continues to be powered by a 937cc Ducati Testastretta twin-cylinder engine which now complies with Euro-5 emission norms. The motor belts out 111.5PS at 9000rpm and 93Nm at 6500rpm.

A new 4.3-inch TFT dash offers control over the bikes three riding modes: Sport, Touring and Urban, cornering ABS, traction and wheelie control monitored by a 6-axis IMU. The bike even gets a bi-directional quickshifter for clutchless up and downshifts. Other notable features include heated grips, Ducati Multimedia System (DMS) and USB charging socket under the seat.

In terms of hardware, the SuperSport 950 uses a trellis frame, an aluminium single-sided swingarm, a fully adjustable 43mm Marzocchi fork and a Sachs monoshock. As for the more premium S trim, it gets a 48mm fully adjustable USD fork from Ohlins and a fully adjustable monoshock, also from Ohlins. Bringing the bike to a dead stop are twin 320mm rotors mated to Brembo M4.32 calipers up front and a single disc at the rear.

The 2021 Ducati SuperSport retails at Rs 13.49 lakh, Rs 15.49 lakh, and Rs 15.69 lakh for the base variant, S variant, and S variant in white colour, respectively. At this price, the SuperSport primarily rivals the newly launched Aprilia RS 660, while also locking horns with the Honda CBR650R and the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX.

SuperSport 950 Expert Review

BikeDekho Experts

Overview

Ducati will be launching the SuperSport on September 22nd. Ducati dealerships across the country have started accepting bookings for the SuperSport. The bike is expected to come in October. The booking amount ranges from Rs 1 to 2 lakh depending on the dealership. The SuperSport is a road-focussed sports bike that will slot between the Ducati Multistrada 950 and the Panigale 959. The bike gets new bodywork with upright ergonomics. The SuperSport is expected to be launched in two variants - the base SuperSport and the SuperSport S. The SuperSport S gets higher spec Öhlins suspension and a bi-directional quickshifter. The base SuperSport is expected to retail around Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom), while the SuperSport S is expected to cost Rs 2 lakh more. The Ducati SuperSport will face competition from the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 and the Suzuki GSX-R1000F.

Design

While the bike is styled similar to the Panigale, it gets new headlamps, adjustable windscreen, new exhausts, higher set of clip-ons, a larger seat, and lower footpegs.  In keeping with the times, the bike gets ride-by-wire, rider modes, 8-level traction control and 3-level ABS.

Engine, Mileage & Performance

The motor is a 937cc liquid-cooled Testastretta L-twin. It makes 110PS @ 9,500rpm and 93Nm of torque @ 6,500rpm.The bike weighs 210 kilos (kerb). We expect performance to be on par with the Ducati Multistrada 950. The gearbox is a six-speed unit. The SuperSport S gets Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) up/down quick shifter.

Handling & Ride Quality

Braking is handled by dual 320mm semi-floating discs clamped by radially mounted Brembo Monobloc M4-32 callipers at the front and a single 245 mm disc with a 2-piston calliper at the back.
The SuperSport gets 43mm fully adjustable Marzocchi upside-down forks up front and a linked semi-adjustable Sachs monoshock damper at the rear. The 17-inch lightweight alloys get Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tyres. The Supersport S gets fully-adjustable 48 mm Öhlins TiN-treated forks and fully adjustable Öhlins rear gas-charged monoshockThe Supersport is a more 'road-focussed' Panigale with more importance given to ergonomics and comfort.

Features

The SuperSport gets rider modes, 8-level traction control, and 3-level ABS.
