Get the best for your two wheeler from Bosch Auto Parts

Bikes are more than just a means for commuting and a pride for most bikers. Motorcycle rides are fun and adventurous unless they run into unexpected problems or failure, making the entire riding experience unpleasant.

With a lot of riders taking to the roads every single day, there are very few riders who have sufficient know-how concerning the technicalities of their bikes. They end up relying on the services of the mechanic in the neighborhood to fix the smallest of snags. The mechanic, being aware of their ignorance, can end up billing them exorbitantly. This is all the more an important reason to be updated about some crucial parts of the bike and their functionalities, so as to save oneself from getting duped.

Spark Plug: Spark plugs are one of the most essential components in the ignition system. They ignite the pressurized air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber of the engine. The electrodes in spark plugs wear out due to the frequent discharge of high voltage and corrosive oxidisation, as a result of combustion. This leads to a gradual increase in the plug gap. As the gap in the plug widens, the strength of the spark reduces and leads to misfiring. Thus, the engine performance and mileage begin to suffer. Preventive maintenance is therefore the key. Ensure that the spark plug is checked every 12,000-15,000 km. It is also advisable to use the same type of spark plug, as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, at the time of replacement.

Brakes: The basic and most important safety feature of a two wheeler is the braking system. The extended usage of brake pads and shoes beyond its service life makes the braking function less effective, due to reduced friction.  Excessive wear results in the metal parts of the brake shoes or pads to come in contact with drum/disc thereby damaging them. This results in expensive repairs and most importantly, also affects the rider’s safety. While it takes a professional technician to check the brake wear and replace the brake parts, one can gauge the warning signs of brake shoe/pad wear.  These usually include increased braking effort and/or an abnormal squeaking sound.

Engine Oil: In addition to lubricating the moving parts of the engine, engine oils lower emission and in some cases, help maintain fuel efficiency. The prolonged usage of engine oil takes away the oil’s ability to lubricate and clean the engine parts. In extreme cases, it may result in a complete engine failure leading to expensive repairs. Changing the oil as per the vehicle manufacturer's’ suggested schedule is important to keep your vehicle’s engine running longer. It is always advisable to follow the manufacturer’s recommendation while choosing the right grade and specification of the engine oil.

Air Filter: Air filters are inevitable parts of a motorbike that prevent dust from entering the engine. The air filter simply filters the air off all the particulate matter and components, resulting in cleaner air that ensure optimum fuel combustion and delivers the best performance. On the other hand, a clogged air filter prevents sufficient air supply to the combustion chamber, resulting in the fuel not being optimally combusted and further leading to engine failure. This is exactly why one should either clean the air filter or replace it at regular intervals.

Clutch Plates: Clutch plates get worn down by rubbing against each other during the engagement process. Additionally, the flat surfaces of the inner hub and pressure also get worn out from constant contact. The clutch springs lose some of the spring tension and weak springs cannot hold the clutch plates together firmly enough. This leads to slippage, especially as the plates wear out and the tolerance changes inside the clutch. If the clutch slips, it is time to change to new plates and springs, and inspect the pressure plate and inner hub surfaces.

Genuine Parts: When it comes to replacing the spare parts of your vehicle, always insist on using genuine spare parts. Although non-genuine parts may look real, they may have never been tested to work for your vehicle and often compromise on the quality and safety attributes that come with genuine parts. Made from high quality materials to precise specifications and tested to be perfectly compatible for your vehicle, genuine parts will save you from expensive repairs, assuring you of optimal performance of the vehicle.

With over 125 years of expertise in the field of automotive solutions and services, technology from Bosch assures mobility of people with a comprehensive and world-class range of genuine replacement parts for two wheelers.
