2021 TVS Apache RR 310: Old vs New

Modified On Aug 30, 2021 07:18 PM By Gaurav Sadanand for TVS Apache RR 310

A whole new bike or a better, more flexible package compared to the earlier version?

TVS has rolled out the biggest and most important update the Apache RR 310 has seen so far. The changes or updates, if you may, make the bike a lot more potent and flexible than before. All that at a premium, of course. So how different is the 2021 model from the outgoing one? And is it worth the extra dough?

Same But Different

The basic foundation is the same as the 2020 Apache RR 310. It’s powered by the same BS6-compliant 312.2cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine putting out 34PS and 27.3Nm. However, TVS claims the throttle response has been improved on the 2021 model. It continues with the Glide Through Traffic (GTT) Plus as standard. The overall design hasn’t been changed either.

Also, instead of switching to TVS-branded tyres (considering the recent import bans), the company has stuck to the same Michelin Road 5 tyres that offer exceptional grip, be it on dry or wet roads

More Focused?

But here’s what really differentiates the 2021 RR 310 from the model it replaces. TVS has announced two different kits for its flagship sportbike: Dynamic and Race. Sure, there’s only one variant on offer, but here’s where the kits assume significance, allowing you to customise your bike online.

The RR 310 is the only bike in its segment to get a ‘Built To Order’ (BTO) option. It’s also the most affordable supersport in India to come with a fully-adjustable suspension setup. Both kits, available for older bikes as well, offer more experienced riders a chance to hone their skills on the race track with equipment that can be tailored to their needs.

Dynamic Kit

Race Kit

Fully adjustable front fork

Race ergo handlebar

Fully adjustable rear monoshock

Raised footpeg assembly

Anti rust brass coated drive chain

Knurled footpegs

You can choose between the two kits or get both if you want a complete package. There’s also a new ‘Race Exhaust’ with revised geometry for better lean angles while offering a throatier exhaust note. While it comes as standard on the 2021 model, it can only be retro-fitted on the 2020 model, and not the earlier ones.

Added Flexibility

The Dynamic kit features a fully adjustable USD fork that offers 20-steps of compression and rebound damping and 15mm of preload adjustability. As for the monoshock, it comes with 20-steps of rebound damping and a 10-step preload adjustability. This allows you to fine-tune the suspension for touring, commuting, or track days, based on your preferences. Also included in the kit is a brass-coated chain said to be more durable and rust-resistant.

Moreover, you can adjust your suspension setup using a new wave key with an integrated in-hand adjuster. Smart, ain't it?

If you’re starting out on the track, you could opt for the Race Kit, which alters the bike’s ergonomics for track use. The ergos on the standard bike aren't as committed. That's where the Race Kit comes in. You get a new set of clip-on handlebars that are 8-degree downwards and moved towards the rider by 5 degrees. Completing the package are new footrests that are 30mm higher! The result is a 4.5-degree increase in lean angles.

Added Goodies

The 5.5-inch TFT display can now store important documents like the bike’s RC card and licence. Also new is the dynamic engine rev limit indicator, day trip meter, and over speed indicator.
