Ather Energy has announced that its Bengaluru and Chennai dealerships will be closed for test rides and enquiries from March 18 to 31 amidst coronavirus concerns. However, the scooter deliveries will continue as per schedule and Ather Grid charging points will continue to remain functional too.

Ather Energy is also scaling down on service operations. But it will remain open for those whose scooters require periodic servicing or if there’s any major issue to resolve. We reached out to Ather to clarify whether the production has been affected due to the pandemic. 

Tarun Mehta, CEO of Ather Energy responded: “The impact is not very direct because we’ve localised almost everything in the last 12 months, but there’s an indirect impact because raw materials, cells and lots of passive components in electronics come from China, S. Coronavirus has adversely impacted the automotive industry, affecting both production and sales. This comes in at a time when the whole auto segment in India is transitioning towards BS6 emission norms from April 1, 2020 onwards, making it even worse for dealers to clear out stocks of remaining BS4-compliant vehicles.
