The fourth-generation Multistrada features radar-based riding aids
Ducati has revealed the new Multistrada V4. The fourth-generation Multistrada gets a refreshed look, a new motor as well as radar-based riding aids. A major highlight is the all-new V4 motor that replaces the previous twin-cylinder motor. It gets a host of updates for a better touring experience.

While the new Multistrada V4 retains the familiar Multistrada silhouette, it gets sharper lines now. The new headlamp is inspired by the new Panigale range and gets similar V-shaped LED DRLs. It gets a sharper front beak and a redesigned windshield for better rider comfort. The vents on the fairing have been designed to keep heat off the rider’s legs. It is the second production motorcycle to get radar-based rider aids. Tiny radars at the front and back help the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD) tech. Its 6.5-inch TFT instrument console includes the Ducati Connect system that allows smartphone mirroring on the screen and a Sygic navigation app that allows for the map to be directly shown on the dashboard.
The all-new 1158 cc V4 Granturismo motor does not break the 200PS barrier, instead it is focussed on delivering better and smoother performance in each gear. It delivers 170PS at 10,500rpm and 125Nm at 8,750rpm. Like the Panigale V4, it uses a counter rotating crankshaft that reduces the inertia caused by the rotating wheels and helps improve handling. It also features cylinder deactivation tech wherein the rear two cylinders are deactivated at idling speeds thus reducing engine heat and improving fuel efficiency. Another highlight of the motor is its long service intervals. Oil change intervals are now set at 15,000km and valve check intervals at 60,000km! That's the longest for any motorcycle currently sold. Underpinnings include an aluminium monocoque frame with double sided swingarm. The wheelbase is shorter than before while the suspension travel is 170mm at the front and 180mm at the rear. It has a ground clearance of 220mm and a dry weight of 215kg. The Multistrada V4 continued to use the semi-active Ducati Skyhook suspension but it now gets an auto leveling function. This setup recognises vehicle load and automatically adjusts preload to keep the vehicle balanced.
Ducati will launch the Multistrada V4 in India next year. It is expected to be priced around Rs 20 lakh and will compete with the BMW R 1250 GSA and upcoming Triumph Tiger 1200.
