Published On Feb 28, 2016 01:31 PM By Sameer Sheikh for Mahindra Gusto 125

It has been some time now that Mahindra unveiled its 125cc version of its highest selling scooter,  the Gusto. Earlier there were speculations that the Indian manufacturer will launch this scooter during Auto Expo 2016, which turned out to be rumour only. Now, the company is all geared up to launch the scooter in a phased manner starting by mid-March. Mahindra will launch the Gusto 125 in South India first followed by western and northern states.

The company is following this approach to gain higher visibility especially in growing South Indian market. The media ride of the scooter has already been done. Coming to the Gusto 125, the company has followed the same design cues like its younger sibling but with added colour scheme to differentiate it from 110cc Gusto. The scooter is powered by a 125cc M-Tech that now produces 8.7PS of power and 10Nm of torque which is 0.5PS and 1Nm more from its 110cc Gusto. As per the company officials, the new engine now has low friction piston rings, an offset crank with roller rockers and a high energy ignition coil.

Though, the company has offered it with a lot of useful features, does it job decently and the new engine performs a little better than before, but the price is still unknown. The price could play a major role how it performs for the company in terms of sales. The scooter will lock horns with the segment leader, Honda Activa 125. The success of Gusto will help the Mahindra Two-wheelers Ltd to strengthen its foothold in the market.
