Electric bikes are all the rage and one of the biggest names emerging from this electric revolution has been Revolt Motors. Revolt Motors has established itself as a leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer in India, and it continues to expand its product line with new and innovative electric bikes and scooters. Currently, Revolt offers one model which is Revolt RV 400 priced at 1.25 Lakh. The upcoming electric bike from Revolt includes Revolt RV Cafe Racer which is expected to be launched in 2023.

Is Revolt a Chinese Bike?

The growing awareness and demand around electric two-wheelers in the late 2010s saw a number of EV start-ups emerge in India, with Revolt being one of them. The Indian electric two-wheeler start-up announced its entry into the two-wheeler market in 2017 when Rahul Sharma, a renowned Indian industrialist who is also the co-founder of Micromax Mobiles, co-founded the company.  

Revolt had a keener emphasis on making motorcycles over scooters. With this approach, Revolt Motors announced the launch of its first-ever product, an electric motorcycle named RV400 in 2019. It was the only premium electric bike in India before the arrival of other brands including Tork Motors, and Ultraviolette.

Since its inception, Revolt Motors has been selling the RV400 electric motorcycle as its standalone product. Over the years, the Revolt RV400 received multiple colour options and minor feature updates, apart from announcing a more affordable variant of the motorcycle, named Revolt RV400 BRZ. At the beginning of 2023, RattanIndia Enterprises gained a 100 per cent stake in the ownership of the company. 

To sum up, Revolt is not a Chinese brand or a Chinese bike manufacturer. It is a company that is wholly owned by an Indian enterprise with a manufacturing facility here in India. It is located in Manesar, Haryana, where it assembles electric motorcycles using locally-sourced components and a few components like cells from abroad.

Since its inception, Revolt Motors has manufactured and sold over 15,000 units of the RV400 electric motorcycle, the only product it makes at its facility. Revolt Motors started its operations with 25 dealerships, the network of which crossed the 100-dealership mark towards the end of 2023.

Can Riders Under 18 Years of Age Ride a Revolt Bike?

Currently, the only product made by Revolt Motors in India is the RV400 electric bike. It has a claimed top-speed of 85kmph, and is powered by a 3kW mid-drive motor and 3.24kWh lithium-ion battery. It offers three riding modes, with a maximum riding range of 150 km in the Eco mode. 

The specifications of the Revolt RV400 clearly indicate that it is a high-speed electric vehicle according to Indian motoring standards. In India, any electric two-wheeler with a top speed higher than 25 kmph is a high-speed EV, which requires a legal registration number and a valid driving license, which is also required for any other conventional two-wheeler or four-wheeler in India. 

So, the legal age limit to ride a high-speed electric two-wheeler like the Revolt RV400 is a minimum of 18 years. So, riders aged under 18 are legally not allowed to ride a Revolt bike. 

Are Revolt Bikes Waterproof?

The 3.24kWh lithium-ion battery offered in the Revolt RV400 as standard has an IP67 rating, which means that it is waterproof. The IP in IP67 stands for Ingress Protection. The number 6 represents a complete protection against dust whereas the number 7 stands for protection against immersions in water bodies that are between 15cm and 1m deep, for a maximum of 30 minutes. This means light water wading on flooded roads should not harm the battery. However, if the vehicle is left unattended on a flooded road or flooded parking spot for long hours, there will be chances of water seepage into the battery pack.

What is the Future of Revolt Motors?

Encouraged by rising demand for electric two-wheelers in India, RattanIndia Enterprises, the parent company of Revolt Motors, plans to set up its second manufacturing facility in the country to expand its production. In the coming months, the company also plans to introduce newer models in the electric two-wheeler segment, which will coexist with the RV400.
