XL100 Expert Review
Overview
The TVS XL100 is currently the only petrol-powered moped on sale in the country. The XL100 is also the cheapest two-wheeler in India, and is one of TVS' best-selling products. The TVS XL100 is a success story in smaller towns and rural areas, where this moped is being used by many for its affordability, low running costs, reliability and load-hauling abilities.
The TVS XL100 lineup consists of five variants, all of which differ based on cosmetic elements, practical bits and features while being mechanically similar. The base-spec Heavy Duty variant is priced at Rs 44,999 and available in three colours – blue, green and black, while the slightly more premium Comfort variant is priced at Rs 46,671 and is on sale in two colours – grey-black and red-black.
Then comes the Heavy Duty i-touchstart variant, offered in five colours – black, blue, green, Mineral Purple and red, and is priced at Rs 56,935. The Heavy Duty i-touchstart variant is also available in an exclusive “Win Edition” version, with two colour options – Delight Blue and Beaver Brown- priced at Rs 59,437. Available in four colour options – Coral Silk, Mint Blue, Sparkling Silver, and Lustre Gold, the top-spec Comfort i-touchstart variant will set one back by Rs 59,695 (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
Design
The overall design of the TVS XL100 is simple as this affordable moped from TVS prioritises function over form. All five variants of the XL100 have design characteristics that differentiate them from each other.
A rounded headlamp with chrome bezel is standard to all the variants of the TVS XL100, with the top-spec Comfort i-touchstart variant also getting a modern-looking body-coloured cowl with an integrated flyscreen. This headlamp, along with the rounded rectangular turn indicators and tail lamp, are all-halogen. However, all the variants of the TVS XL100 also get a daytime running LED strip below their headlamps.
The TVS XL100 gets a narrow floorboard along with a compact 4-litre fuel tank ahead. The front and rear fenders are rounded. The area below the seat and below the floorboard are covered by simple body panels.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
All variants of the TVS XL100 use a single-cylinder, air-cooled, 99.7cc engine paired with a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), generating 4.4PS @6000 rpm and 6.5Nm @3500 rpm. These figures make the TVS XL100 the least powerful four-stroke two-wheeler on sale today, but it gets the job done for a vehicle of its size and weight.
Handling & Ride Quality
All TVS XL100 variants have the same chassis components, including 16-inch spoke wheels with 2.75-inch tubed tyres. The TVS XL100 lineup also comes with 110mm drum brakes at both ends, with combined braking system.
Comfort
Compared to the previous iteration of the TVS XL100, the latest version claims to have an ergonomically improved handlebar, which should be easy to reach and should offer a comfortable riding posture. The grip from 2.75-inch tyres on both ends should be decent enough for city speeds at which the XL100 is designed to be ridden. The telescopic fork twin and rear shock absorbers are sturdy enough to carry a 130kg payload across all the variants.
Features
Other features common to all the TVS XL100 variants include spoke wheels, a tubular pillion grab rail, and an all-analogue instrument console with a speedometer, odometer, and fuel reserve indicator. The lower-spec Heavy Duty and Comfort variants differ based on seats and grab rails offered—split seats with larger-sized grab rails in the Heavy Duty variant and a single-piece long seat with a sleeker tubular rail in the Comfort variant.
The silent electric starter is offered from the Heavy Duty i-touchstart variant onwards. Based on the base-spec Heavy Duty variant, it also gets an engine kill switch and USB charging port. The “Win Edition” version of the Heavy Duty i-touchstart variant further gets a few exclusive add-ons, including chrome-finished rearview mirrors and exhaust heat shield, beige-coloured inner panels and split seats. The top-spec Comfort i-Touchstart variant gets a chrome exhaust shield, headlamp cowl and beige-coloured long single-piece seat.
Should you buy
The TVS XL100 is a lightweight, practical moped with a generous 130kg load carrying capacity and a fuel-efficient engine. This, along with its reliability and the fact that it is the most affordable two-wheeler in India makes it an ideal choice for rural as well as urban entrepreneurs looking for a trusty two-wheeler for their businesses.

The tvs bike is awesome at all ranges. In my view it can improve safety features. It must have an emergency kit which includes necessary tools and medications equipments that will be most helpful on the Indian roads. Mostly India has a unique township with narrow roads and off roads which makes a rider more at risk so That innovative idea will be a life changing of bike era.Read More
