Who is the Owner and CEO of Hero MotoCorp?
The roots of Hero MotoCorp go back to 1984 when Hero Honda Group started as a joint venture between Hero Cycles of India (owned by the Munjal brothers, with Brijmohan Lall Munjal as its founder) and Honda Motor Company from Japan. Under this joint venture, Hero and Honda came together to make motorcycles, with Honda providing technical expertise.
However, in 2010, the board of directors decided to end the joint venture between Hero Group and Honda in a phased manner. It led to the Hero Group, led by the Munjal family, buying out Honda’s stake and renaming the company as Hero MotoCorp Limited in 2011. The current CEO, Chairman and Managing Director of Hero MotoCorp is Pawan Kant Munjal, who is the third child of Brijmohan Lall Munjal
Is Hero Electric Part of Hero MotoCorp?
Hero Electric is a separate entity from Hero MotoCorp, with its original name being Hero Electric Vehicles Private Limited. It is owned by Hero EcoTech Group and led by Vijay Munjal, the cousin of Pawan Kant Munjal, the head of Hero MotoCorp. Hero Electric primarily makes low-speed, affordable electric scooters and is an entirely different company from Hero MotoCorp, which is much larger in scale, production, and profits.
Where are Hero MotoCorp Bikes Made in India?
The parent manufacturing facility of Hero MotoCorp is located in Dharuhera (near Gurugram, Haryana), which has been its first manufacturing facility since Hero Honda's days. However, over the years, Hero MotoCorp has set up additional manufacturing facilities in Gurugram (Haryana), Neemrana (Rajasthan), Haridwar (Uttarakhand), Halol (Gujarat), and Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh).
What is i3S Technology in Hero Bikes?
Hero MotoCorp introduced the i3S technology with the Splendor i-Smart in the Indian two-wheeler market, which was later introduced in more motorcycles and scooters from the brand. The term i3S stands for Idle Stop-Start System, which automatically switches off the engine after idling for a while in traffic. The system turns the engine back on with just a pull of the clutch lever.
With this system, motorcycles and scooters save fuel by preventing the engine from staying on for long unnecessarily.
