The e-scooters will go through detailed diagnostics and health check

Ola Electric has issued a voluntary recall of 1,441 units of their electric scooter amid rising EV fire incidents in the country. This step was taken soon after Okinawa Autotech and PureEV issued a recall of their e-scooters.

Ola Electric, in a statement, mentioned that the fire incident that took place on the outskirts of Pune on March 26th is quite likely an isolated one. However, this is a preliminary assessment and the investigation of the cause is still ongoing. Taking that into consideration, the EV maker has decided to recall 1,441 e-scooters from that specific batch to conduct a detailed diagnostics and health check.

The process will involve Ola Electric’s service engineer’s inspecting the said e-scooters with diagnostics of battery, safety and thermal systems.

Amid the increasing number of EV fires, the central government has taken steps to investigate the incidents. The Road Transport Ministry asked the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to investigate the root cause of these mishaps.

The most important question, however, is how the recall process will pan out, as Ola Electric does not have any dealerships in the country. It is likely that the EV maker will get in touch with the customers directly and receive the scooters from them.

Moreover, it is unclear at this point whether Ola has established service hot spots in the cities to carry out this process or whether the e-scooters will need to be returned to the company’s FutureFactory for this inspection. We have reached out to Ola Electric for an insight on the topic and will soon update you about the same.
