Aprilia SXR 125 vs Suzuki Burgman Street: Photo Comparison
Can the SXR 125 beat India’s favourite maxi-scooter?
Aprilia has launched its second maxi-scooter in India, the SXR 125. It targets the more accessible 125cc maxi-scooter space, currently dominated by Suzuki's Burgman Street, which ranks as one of the finest scooters currently on sale here. Let’s find out how the new kid fares with the class topper:
Since these are maxi-scooters, the overall persona of both is quite similar. They get big headlamps, tall visors, wide seats, and long footboards. But Suzuki and Aprilia have taken different approaches design-wise.
On one hand, the SXR 125’s styling, in typical Aprilia fashion, is similar to the SXR 160. It looks radical, featuring a tri-LED headlamp with signature DRLs, which looks quite exquisite. It also gets sporty Aprilia graphics and a smoked visor, enhancing its premium looks.
The Burgman Street is subtler in its ways. It features a singular LED unit up front along with body-mounted indicators and a short visor. It even misses out on any graphics but still does a good job aesthetically.
Towards the rear, the SXR carries forward its radical design while the Burgman, again, looks more conventional.
Suzuki is offering the Burgman in five colours (Blue, White, Grey, Black and Burgundy) while the SXR 125 is available in four colours (Black, Red, Blue, and Black)
Suzuki Burgman Electric: What To Expect From The Brand’s First E-scooter? 2021 Yamaha NVX Launched In Malaysia With Y-Connect Smartphone App Suzuki Bikes And Scooters Price List For May 2021Coming to features, both of them pack quite a lot. Aprilia has equipped the baby with a digital LCD instrument cluster, LED lighting, a USB port, CBS, and alloy wheels. While the Burgman gets all this, it also features a cubby space up front, a start-stop switch and Bluetooth connectivity, enabling navigation, phone notifications and ETA Updates.
Powering both scooters are 125cc, single-cylinder gearless engines. The SXR’s motor puts out 9.5PS and 9.2Nm while the Burgman manages 8.7PS and 10Nm. Since we expect both scooters to return similar mileage, the SXR will cover a longer distance owing to its 7-litre fuel tank (1.5 litres more than the Burgman).
As far as underpinnings are concerned, both scooters are closely matched, since they get a telescopic fork, dual-gas shocks, and 12-inch wheels at the front. The only difference is the Burgman’s smaller 10-inch wheel at the rear.
Even their braking setups are similar, with single discs at the front and a drum brake at the back.
Judging from all the aforementioned bits, the Aprilia SXR 125 is an extremely potent offering, capable of stirring up the plot in the segment. But there’s one place where it loses all of it - Pricing. At Rs 1.16 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), it costs Rs 29,000 more than the Suzuki Burgman Street’s Bluetooth variant. Had Aprilia priced it better, the SXR would’ve surely made for an excellent option in the market.
