Ather 450X: Old vs New: Differences Explained
It gets better range, 2 new colours, more features, and a slight price increase
Ather recently launched the 2025 Ather 450X in India, starting at a price of Rs 1,46,999 (ex-showroom). The electric scooter has received changes to its range, features, colours, and price. Here is a detailed breakdown of what is different on the scooter when compared to the previous Ather 450:
Range
The previous Ather 450X had a claimed “Tru range” of 85km with the 2.9kWh battery and 105km with the 3.7kWh battery. With new tyres and other efficiency improvements in the battery pack, the 2.9kWh variant of the 2025 Ather 450X now offers a claimed “Tru range” of 105km, while the 3.7kWh version has an increased range of 130km. That is a 25km range improvement across both variants. That said, Ather’s claimed true ranges are usually very accurate. So these ranges should also be applicable in real world conditions for most riders.
Magic Twist
The previous version of the Ather 450X didn’t include the Magic Twist feature - it was only available in the Rizta and the 450 Apex. The 2025 Ather 450X debuts the “Magic Twist” system, which allows riders to slow down by rotating the throttle grip in the opposite direction, without needing to apply the brakes, using regenerative braking instead. This feature not only offers a smooth way to decelerate but also helps reduce wear on the brake pads, ultimately extending their lifespan if used properly.
Traction Control
The older Ather 450X did not offer a traction control system. The 2025 model introduces a new traction control system, featuring three modes: Rain, Road, and Rally. Each mode adjusts the system’s sensitivity to wheel slip, providing greater control in various conditions. For example, in Rain mode, the system reacts more quickly to help prevent loss of traction on slippery surfaces, while Rally mode allows for more wheel slip - something expert riders might appreciate when riding on dirt roads.
Tyres
The older Ather 450X used standard tyres that were not specifically designed for electric vehicles. The new Ather 450X is equipped with MRF Zapper N e-Tred tyres, which have low rolling resistance and have been co-developed with Ather. These tyres improve the overall efficiency of the scooter and are said to increase the real-world range by up to 25%.
Colours
The 2025 Ather 450X introduces two new colours: Hyper Sand and Stealth Blue, in addition to the existing options: True Red, Lunar Grey, Cosmic Black, Space Grey, and Still White.
Pro Pack Features
The 2025 Ather 450X Pro Pack includes features like Google Maps navigation, Alexa integration, WhatsApp notifications on the dashboard, “Ping My Scooter,” and live location sharing.
