Benling Outlines Future Plans For India

Modified On Aug 23, 2019 08:09 AM By Gaurav Sadanand for Benling Aura

The Chinese manufacturer will be setting up four manufacturing plants across India

The company intends to set up 100 new dealerships by the end of this financial year.  Benling’s current portfolio in India comprises of three electric scooters. It will be launching a new high-performance electric scooter in India next month.

Admittedly, Benling isn’t a well-known brand in India. But the Chinese electric manufacturer has quite the presence overseas. The brand which was founded in 2001 already has around five manufacturing facilities with an annual production capacity of 6-12 lakh units, most of which is exported to over 50 countries.

The electric two-wheeler manufacturer entered India back in December 2018 and commenced operations in April 2019. Its current portfolio for the Indian market comprises of three low-speed e-scooters - Kriti, Falcon and Icon, which are being sold via 25 dealerships present in cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Gurugram.

Mr Amit Kumar, Country Head, Sales & Marketing, Benling, said the company had plans of expanding its reach by introducing 100 more dealerships by the end of this financial year. Also, in order to meet the expected demand, Benling will be setting up four manufacturing plants in the north, south, east and west (aside from the current facility in Manesar) starting with Chennai.

To reduce overall costs and price its products more competitively, the e-scooter manufacturer will aim at localising most of its parts. To put things into perspective, it already manufactures its batteries, tyres, lights and other small components locally. Aside from this, Benling is currently in talks with rental companies to address last-mile connectivity issues.

Speaking of its future plans, the company is all set to launch an all-new high performance e-scooter in India next month called the Aura. Post which, it will introduce a second e-scooter with similar specifications but a relatively lower price tag. The company is also secretly working on its very first e-bike that will take on the likes of the Revolt RV 400. According to the folks at Benling, the bike will be designed to be on par with its rival in terms of performance, range, price and features. This mystery electric motorcycle is expected to be launched in January 2020.
