The 250cc to 300cc range is considered as a starting point for sports bikes and a good entryway for novices to get into performance motorcycling. Here are the best motorcycles you can buy in the above-mentioned category.

KTM 250 Duke (Rs 2.00 lakh):

KTM recently updated the 250 Duke to BS6 norms. The 250 Duke BS6 gets a new paint scheme that makes it look more premium now. It gets the larger 390 Duke’s bodywork but misses out on the LED headlamp and instead gets a halogen setup with LED DRL’s. Even the split trellis frame is shared with the larger Duke. It gets premium WP suspension in the form of 43mm upside-down forks and monoshock, ByBre brake setup consisting of a 300mm front and 230mm rear disc dual-channel ABS and MRF Revz tyres. Its BS6-compliant 248.8cc liquid-cooled motor delivers the same 30PS and 24Nm and gets a six-speed gearbox. This is a refined unit with a very un-KTM like power delivery. Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 BS6 (Rs 1.70 - Rs 1.71 Lakh):

The Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 BS6 is currently the only fully-faired sportsbike available in the 250cc to 300cc range. It gets features like an LED headlamp, LED tail lamp and full-digital instrument console. The motorcycle gets a unique oil-cooled motor. The 249cc fuel-injected motor delivers 26.5PS and 22.2Nm of torque and gets a six-speed gearbox. It has a more upright riding position than a KTM RC 200 that allows it to be comfortably ridden in the city as well. The suspension setup includes conventional forks and monoshock while braking is via disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS. Jawa BS6 (Rs 1.96 lakh - Rs 2.06 lakh):

The Jawa BS6 is a classic looking motorcycle with a modern motor and underpinnings. The motorcycle impresses with its attention to detail and period feel. It gets minimal features like an analogue instrument that includes just the speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge. Jawa has not revealed the BS6 motor’s power output but the 293cc liquid-cooled and fuel-injected mill is expected to deliver the same 27.3PS and 28Nm and has a 6-speed gearbox. It gets telescopic forks and dual preload-adjustable shock absorbers. The motorcycle gets 18-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels with MRF Nylogrip tyres. Braking is via front disc and rear drum with single-channel ABS. There is also a dual-channel ABS variant on offer. Yamaha FZ 25 BS6 (Est Rs 1.40 lakh - Rs 1.45 lakh):

Yamaha had unveiled the second-generation FZ 25 BS6 before the 2020 Auto Expo. However, its launch has been postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus lockdown. The updated FZ 25 BS6 looks fresher thanks to a new headlamp and an engine cowl. It now gets a brighter LED projector headlamp while the LED tail lamp has been carried over. The BS6-compliant 249cc air-cooled and fuel-injected motor delivers the same 20.8PS at 8000rpm and 20.1Nm and gets a 5-speed gearbox. It gets telescopic forks and monoshock while braking is via disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS. The FZ 25 BS6 is a good bike if your usage is mainly restricted to the urban environment. Honda CB300R:

Honda is soon expected to update its CB300R with a BS6-compliant motor. The CB300R is brought to India via the CKD route and impresses with its quality and fit and finish levels. It is a good looking motorcycle with compact dimensions and is very light in weight for a 300cc motorcycle. It gets a 286cc liquid-cooled motor that in BS4 guise delivers 30.35PS and 27.5Nm. We expect the BS6 model to make the same power and torque as well. It gets a 6-speed gearbox. It gets a diamond-type frame with 41mm upside-down Showa forks and Showa monoshock. Braking is via Nissin 296mm front disc and 220mm rear disc with IMU-assisted dual-channel ABS. It gets Michelin Pilot Street tyres. Kawasaki Ninja 300:

Kawasaki will soon update the Ninja 300 with a BS6-compliant motor. It is the most expensive motorcycle on this list and the only one here to get a parallel-twin motor. Its 296cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin motor in BS4 guise delivers 39PS and 27Nm. The output is expected to remain unchanged in the BS6 motor as well. It gets a six-speed gearbox. The Ninja 300 gets telescopic forks and a monoshock. Braking is via disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS. It gets MRF tyres.
