Bigger, More Powerful Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter Spied

Modified On Nov 29, 2021 11:22 AM By Praveen M. for Bajaj Chetak

The just spotted scooter could also be the basis for KTM’s upcoming electric scooter

Looks like Bajaj Auto is all set to energise its electric two-wheeler portfolio with an updated version of the Bajaj Chetak as it has been spotted testing recently.

The Chetak’s iconic curvaceous design has been carried over to this new electric scooter albeit with several tweaks to make it look beefier than its predecessor. The apron looks bulbous, and the front wheel appears to have a similar trailing link front suspension like the Chetak. It comes with a circular instrument cluster, likely to be fully digital. We wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a TFT unit (instead of Chetak's LCD unit) complete with smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. The long split seat is complemented by a chunky single-piece grab rail.

The scooter’s swingarm looks rather lengthy, and it gets a beefy cover (doubling up as the rear fender), presumably enclosing the motor. Such a design makes the electric scooter much more different than current run-of-the-mill ones. Expect the upcoming electric scooter to be a little more powerful than the Chetak, possibly offering better range too. For perspective, the Chetak offers a claimed range of 95km in Eco mode. You can also see the rear shock absorber although it’s unclear whether it’s a monoshock or a twin shock setup.

It was reported back in 2019 that Bajaj’s Chetak platform is modular enough for KTM to spawn its electric scooter(s) off it. Considering the current Chetak isn’t exactly a performance-oriented electric offering, it wouldn't do justice to KTM’s 'ready to race' genes. On the other hand, Bajaj's upcoming electric scooter seems to be much more suitable as a base for KTM to build its own sporty electric scooter. Its underpinnings, coupled with Kiska’s design magic, should make the upcoming KTM e-scooter a looker.

Coming back to the 2022 Bajaj electric scooter, it will go up against the Ola S1 Pro, Ather 450X, and Simple Energy Simple One.
