Last year, Bosch formed two business units viz. two-wheeler and power-sports division in order to develop and supply electronic parts to the motorcycle industry. Presently, the German engineering company is working on to bring a new generation ABS system for the smaller capacity motorcycles.
To be called as ABS10 (Anti-Lock Braking System), the system will be built especially for the motorcycles having a displacement capacity of up to 250cc. The new ABS system will be available in the market along with the existing ABS9 system and the production will start in second half of this year.
As per the Bosch officials, the ABS10 has been developed as an affordable option for the emerging markets. The new ABS system will be 45 percent smaller and 30 percent lighter as compared to the ABS9 and will be available in two options - one channel for the front wheel and double channel for both the wheels. The company has also confirmed that they have worked really hard to make it cost effective for cheaper motorbikes that may not otherwise be equipped with ABS. Moreover, Bosch’s latest motorcycle technologies viz. Side View Assist and Vehicle Hold Control will also be benefited by the new system. Adding ABS to the smaller displacement motorcycles will ensure safety and improve the braking efficiency.
