As promised, Ola Electric has indeed kept the pricing competitive. The final price may further go down depending on the state subsidies. One can buy the electric scooter from September 8, and the deliveries will commence from October. Ola Electric promises to deliver the e-scooter pan-India in over 1,000 cities. While the S1 is available in five colour options, the S1 Pro gets 10 shades to choose from. Ola Electric has tied up with several finance companies, and is offering EMI schemes from Rs 2,999 onwards per month.
The Ola S1 and S1 Pro are powered by a mid-drive Internal Permanent Magnet (IPM) motor offering a peak power of 8.5kW and a peak torque of 58Nm (at the shaft). Take a look at the variant-wise acceleration and top speed numbers:

While the S1 variant gets two modes, Normal and Sports, the S1 Pro comes with an extra Hyper mode apart from the other two. The performance levels are on par with the Ather 450X, and the S1 Pro is in fact faster than the 450X from 0-40kmph by 0.3 seconds! The motor is linked to a banana-shaped non-removable lithium-ion battery pack nestling inside the curved floorboard. Here are the battery specifications:

The claimed range is pretty impressive even for the base variant. But we’re yet to see at what speeds such figures are achieved. For perspective, the Ather 450X gets a slightly smaller 2.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack, offering a true range of 85km in Eco mode.
Ola Electric plans to establish a widespread network of its fast-charging stations, called the Ola Hypercharger Network. The company promises to set up multi-level charging towers at city centres and business districts. They are not only claimed to be automated but will also double up as parking for the e-scooter. The manufacturer also plans to set up perpendicular parking slots with ‘Standalone Destination Chargers’ in places such as malls, IT parks, office complexes and cafes. Ola Electric plans to set up 5,000 charging points spread across 100 cities in India in its first year of operations, and this will then expand to over 1,00,000 charging stations across 400 cities in the future. If Ola Electric manages to set up this infrastructure successfully as per its plan, it will play a massive role in mitigating range anxiety.
The Ola S1 and the S1 Pro are suspended on a single-sided fork up front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking is courtesy disc brakes (220mm front and 180mm rear) at both ends, with standard CBS. The e-scooter rolls on 12-inch aluminium alloy wheels with 110-section tyres at both ends for optimum ride quality.
As expected from a modern electric scooter, this one too gets a proper TFT instrument cluster with a customisable interface. It also gets onboard navigation with smartphone connectivity, proximity lock/ unlock, remote boot lock/unlock, infotainment system, Wifi/Bluetooth/GPS connectivity, side-stand alert, anti-theft alert, geo-fencing, reverse mode, Get home Mode, Take Me Home Lights, and a Limp Home Mode. Additionally, the S1 Pro variant features a hill-hold, voice assistant, and cruise control, features usually found only on high-end motorcycles, as standard! You can also customise your experience with multiple profiles, and then there’s the on-board speaker to emulate the sound of an actual petrol-powered scooter, just like the one in the Revolt RV 400.
Ather Energy Shares Proprietary Fast Charging Connector With Other EV Makers Hero’s Upcoming Electric Scooter Teased! EXCLUSIVE: Simple One Electric Scooter Details Revealed Ahead Of LaunchThe lighting system is all-LED, and the e-scooter gets a massive 36-litre underseat storage, large enough to accommodate two half face helmets. In comparison, the Ather 450X gets a 22-litre storage capacity. Of course, Ola Electric also offers Over The Air (OTA) updates, as well as app-based booking, vehicle tracking and road-side assistance. There’s also a sensor to detect brake-pad wear for preventive maintenance.
At 121kg kerb for the Ola S1 and 125kg for the Ola S1 Pro, the e-scooters are slightly on the heavier side. Thankfully, the seat is pretty accessible at 792mm, and this coupled with the reverse mode should make maneuvering easy at tight parking spaces. Even the ground clearance, at 165mm, is ample.
All in all, Ola Electric has managed to make a game-changer by offering a very well-rounded, feature-packed electric scooter at its price point. Now, we hope the manufacturer is able to deliver the product to its customers quickly and is also able to set up the charging infrastructure proactively. Apart from the aforementioned rivals, the Ola electric scooters will also compete with Bengaluru-based Simple Energy’s Simple One electric scooter, which, incidentally, is scheduled to be launched in a few hours from now. Stay tuned for more updates!
