Buy Or Hold: Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter

Published On Jul 28, 2021 09:05 AM By Pratik Bhanushali for Bajaj Chetak [2020 - 2024]

Online bookings for Pune and Bangalore commence today, so should you dive in and put in your deposit or stay put?

With the number of electric two-wheelers currently available in India, customers now have a sea of options to choose from. One of them is the Bajaj Chetak. Coincidentally, its online bookings have opened today for Pune and Bengaluru. But, should you go ahead and buy the Chetak or hold your purchase?

Well, we’d suggest you hold on, and here’s why?

No Subsidies

Thanks to the Fame 2 benefits, owning an electric scooter/motorcycle in India has become a lot more affordable. However, that’s not the case with the Bajaj Chetak. The indigenous e-scooter doesn’t make the cut for  Fame 2 subsidies.

High-Cost Price

Let’s talk about its pricing first. Bajaj offers the Chetak Premium for Rs 1,44,987 and the Urbane model for Rs 1,42,988 (both ex-showroom). With the road tax, registration and other formalities included, the Bajaj Chetak hits the Rs 1.50 lakh mark. In comparison to the top drawer models like the Ather 450X, the Bajaj e-scooter costs almost Rs 20,000 more expensive.

Stock Availability And Waiting Period

While Bajaj does open online bookings every month or so, the waiting period is a bit too long. Pair that with a shortage of inventory and you’ll be waiting even longer. Not just that, as of now the Bajaj Chetak is only available in a handful of cities across India.

So, if you are keen on buying an EV, we recommend you check this out
