EXCLUSIVE: BS6 Aprilia, Vespa Scooters Delivery To Begin From April 2020

The BS6-compliant scooters are expected to get a price hike of Rs 18,000 to Rs 19,000

The BS6-compliant Vespa SXL 150 features subtle cosmetic tweaks. The 150cc engine features fuel injection for cleaner emissions. However, there will be no change in the engine output. The 2020 Aprilia SR 150 will now be called SR 160.

Piaggio is set to update its range of Vespa and Aprilia scooters for BS6 emission norms in the next couple of months. However, it seems like a few of them might be launched earlier than expected as the BS6-compliant Vespa SXL 150 has been spotted for the first time. According to our sources, some dealers across the country have started accepting bookings for the BS6-compliant scooters for a token amount of Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000. However, deliveries of the scooter are expected to begin from April next year. 

The BS6-compliant Vespa SXL 150 has received minor cosmetic updates over its predecessor. For instance, the instrument console has been updated, although it still is a semi-digital unit and not a fully digital one. The matte black paint seems to be a tad bit darker and the paint finish on the alloy wheels is also a bit different compared to the BS4-compliant model.

Apart from this, the scooter will remain the same as the older model. Powering the scooter is a fuel-injected version of the current 154.8cc single-cylinder motor. The updated motor churns out the same power and torque figures as before - 10.06PS and 10.9Nm.

What’s more interesting is that Piaggio is also planning to launch the BS6-compliant Aprilia SR 150 in the coming months. The BS6-compliant version is likely to be called SR 160. But don’t get fooled by that suffix because it won’t be powered a 160cc motor. Instead, it will be powered by the same 150cc engine, albeit in a fuel injected avatar. This motor is likely to put out the same power and torque figures as the older model - 12PS/11.5Nm. Just as we have seen with the new SXL 150, we expect the updated SR to get a few tweaks here and there. 

As per our sources, the BS6-compliant scooters from both brands are likely to get expensive by Rs 18,000 to Rs 19,000, which is a lot considering that the brand has only made some changes to the engines, exhaust and the cat-con to make their models greener.
