Gravton Quanta Electric Moped Launched, Offers Up To 320km Range

Modified On Jun 29, 2021 01:01 PM By Praveen M. for Gravton Quanta

With the Gravton Quanta, you can technically travel from Mumbai to Pune and back, and still have some charge left for grocery runs!

The Gravton Quanta comes with a swappable lithium-ion battery. It offers a claimed range of 150km on one battery pack, and 320km on two.  Comes with a claimed top speed of 70kmph, and 180Nm at the wheel. Carries a sub one lakh-rupee price tag.

Gravton Motors, a Hyderabad-based EV startup founded in 2016, has launched its first electric offering, the Quanta, at an introductory price of Rs 99,000 (ex-showroom, excluding the new FAME II incentive). The introductory price is valid till October 15, 2021 or the first 1,000 customers, whichever comes earlier. Gravton Motors will also provide a home charging station complimentary with every purchase for the first 1,000 customers. Bookings are open at the brand’s official website, and the electric moped is available in white, red and black colour options. Having said that, the black coloured version is a special edition variant and will be limited to 100 units. Gravton plans to sell its e-moped in Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru for now. The pan-India availability will be from 2022, and the brand intends to establish 140 dealers by the end of next calendar year.

Gravton claims the Quanta has been designed and developed indigenously in India. This electric moped is also claimed to be built on a world’s first ‘Rib caged chassis’ that can accommodate two swappable 3kWh lithium-ion battery packs, weighing 19.5kg each. The claimed range stands at 150km using a single battery pack (at 25kmph), and 320km if both are used. Using a fast charger, the battery pack can charge at the rate of 1km per minute and can be juiced up completely in 90 minutes. It takes three hours to charge using a conventional charging socket. To ensure peace of mind, the company offers a five-year warranty on the battery.

This battery pack is linked to a 3kW in-house-developed BLDC motor that’s capable of churning out a peak torque of 180Nm at the wheel. This helps propel the Quanta e-moped from 0-45kmph in 4.2 seconds, and on to a top speed of 70kmph (both claimed). There are three modes: Eco, City and Dirt. Under Eco mode, the speed is restricted to 25kmph. On the other hand, the speed is limited to 45kmph in City mode. The claimed range drops to 110km under this mode. It further goes down to 85km under Dirt mode, which utilises the full potential of the motor.

The rib cage chassis is linked to a telescopic front fork and twin rear shock absorbers, and the Quanta gets 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends. Braking is via discs at both ends with CBS as standard. The e-moped weighs 98kg with single battery pack, and 117.5kg (both kerb) with two. Features include an all-LED lighting system and a digital instrument cluster compatible with a smartphone app, called umm, ‘Smart App’. This allows the rider to use features such as roadside assistance, nearest service stations, and even remotely operate the lock and the lights.

All in all, the Gravton Quanta seems pretty promising on paper, but will it be enough to take on the most popular electric motorcycle in the country, the Revolt RV 400? Only time will tell.
