The homegrown two-wheeler manufacturer hasn’t produced a single unit of the Karizma in the last 6 months
At one time, Hero MotoCorp’s Karizma was the biggest, brightest sensation in Indian motorcycling. But all good things must come to an end. And so it seems that this is the end of the line for the Karizma, with recent data showing zero production for the last six months. Despite the Karizma ZMR still being listed on Hero’s website at the time of writing, it is said that not even a single unit of the bike has been manufactured from April to September 2019.
Hero had refuted claims earlier this year of discontinuing the model, claiming that it would continue to cater to export markets. However, demand from overseas has also evidently dried up, and it seems the Karizma will get the axe soon.
The ZMR had already been discontinued once previously at the time of BS4 implementation, and then brought back. However, Hero produced only 314 units in FY18, and this number dropped by more than 50 per cent to just 138 units in FY19. With BS6 emission norms set to be implemented next year, there is almost zero chance of the model being updated to comply.
With the imminent demise of the Karizma, the Xtreme 200S will become the only fully-faired model in Hero’s lineup. It produces 18.3PS and 17.1Nm from its 199.6cc air-cooled engine.
